I absolutely love the idea of getting elemental engrams as drops from raids but I think it would be better if it dropped similar in fashion to exotics just maybe at a lesser rate so people have something to work for because there are those who don't like to raid but I still really like the idea

I'd be ok with that as well. Even (when nightfall is bumped up again to be relevant) have it as a nightfall reward with a handful of strange coins of motes.
