Typical American. Still believing your capitalist ideals are "justifiable" or "sustaining".
Some socialism and capitalism is great when practiced in equal measure. The rich MUST be kept in check to prevent corruption, and the poor has to be given an opportunity for a better life. That is the concept you spoiled brats never seem to grasp.
• Funny thing is, I'm Singaporean. My cookies are all imported from all over the globe, so I understand how vital it is to work with others, yet protect our own interests.

  • Socialism itself is not sustainable, if capitalism was not sustainable then how come the US became an economic powerhouse in under 200 years. Also the problems were are having are because of straying from capitalism and implementing elements of socialism. Also there are plenty of nations that mix capitalism and socialism so you can simply go there and not play with the US so why the hell do you care what we do?

  • Because OP has brought this up, and frankly, its astounding how much most Americans take their wealth for granted, with the mentality of "Just because your daddy works at a big company, means those less fortunate shouldn't even get a chance for a better life." Its sickening, so here is my 2 cents; a little bit of socialism wouldn't kill you fatasses, and if any of you have even a shred of humanity within those lumps of lard, quit giving out food stamps and give out more free education and the means to pursue them.

  • We already have more than a little bit of socialism, do we take our wealth for granted? Yes we definitely and I would say more than 90 percent of us are oblivious by how much and how easily that wealth could slip away. The reality however is that socialism fixes none of it, in practice it has been shown that a completely free and unrestricted economy gives prosperity for all (not just the super rich). Since the war on poverty started in the US to now the number of Americans below the poverty line has only changed by about 5 percent or less. We have tried injecting Socialism and simple fact is it does not work, depressions are inevitable we cannot prevent them but we can limit their impact by having a free economy. But again I do not understand why our fatassitude or anything we do is your concern just as i don't care what your country does (so long as you don't attack us).

  • OK, let me reiterate. You guys need to practice more socialism. Right now, from what I'm seeing, it seems like your country can't seem to agree with each other at all. When Obama came to power, and actually tried to instill the change you all voted him for, half the country basically said they won't work with him, took over congress, and basically made things harder than its supposed to be. Of course the change would seem half-assed, but it did show there was progress, and that is something. Now, if you are wondering why I seem concerned, my country depends on trade, which means we are quite affected by international affairs. A poorer market on your end, means trouble on mine, so we need you guys to get your shit together. What is the point of voting in a president if you aren't willing to change in the first place? PS; Sorry for the rudeness, IB Rift was not kind to me yesterday.

Okay under global markets and all it affect you, but what put us as a global power? I assure you it was not socialism, take a look at history socialism is not the answer here as all it does is stifle productivity and then the markets would be even slower. There was no progress look at unemployment between Obama and Bush (unless the progress is to dethrone the US). The average with Bush was around 3.7 IIRC and Obama is 7 or higher (again I don't have the exact numbers) costs have gone up money available for non essentials have gone done which is what happens with higher taxes and more entitlements. Now if there was more socialism this would only get worse. The best system as evidenced by the laffer curve is a free market with a 13.5 percent flat tax not progressive. Everyone pays the same not the unequal tax we have now. No offense taken on any perceived rudeness just debating a topic, so no worries.

  • But think of the good you can do for the less fortunate. Giving them a chance at higher education could mean more qualified people for higher end services like doctors or engineers, which should stimulate business growth. I'm not a business savvy person, so I can't discuss market growth well, but I do believe in giving everyone at least a shot for a better life.

  • The less fortunate always have chances for better education all they have to do is work hard if you show your ability or skill while in school (pre-K through 12 what is already funded by the government that allows everyone to at least get a diploma) There will be plenty of colleges/programs willing to pay your tuition for a higher education what more could you ask for? The idealism here is capitalism still which means the harder you work the more you make in contrast to socialism. Don't try to help those who never bothered to help themselves. Sorry for interjecting into your prolonged argument. I just hate it when someone continually spirals on about something and don't continue to learn about it, so they can understand it better.

  • So if they were born poor, that means they never bothered to help themselves? This is the exact sort of reasoning you privileged idiots want to use. There will definitely be people who will try and exploit given welfare, but there will be those who genuinely could use the boost. To decrease their chances of a better life is immoral.

I was talking education and even the poorest of the poor get that for free and if they work hard with it they can get a greater education and get a good job, but what you just did was twist my words that's not very kind

I do understand that however by using the system I suggest everyone is pulled up except those that insist on being the dregs of society. Free market capitalism is the unequal distribution of wealth, socialism is the equal distribution of poverty. Free market capitalism also cause goods to be cheaper so everyone becomes more prosperous. The problem is that you have to look at the whole equation, from your perspective what you see looks greedy and evil but when you step back you realize the opposite is true. We have been trying to eliminate poverty since around 1965 or whenever the war on poverty began and since then the number of Americans below the poverty line changed by less than 5 percent. It was not a reduction in the number of Americans below the poverty line but an increase.

What makes you think he actually going to be able make America full on socialist

  • I never said he was going to make America full on socialist just that there are plenty of nations that fit what he wants so he can go there and not play with us. We have been adopting elements of socialism bit by bit which is what Russia said would happen, it is a trend that needs to be reversed and what is also at fault for our current financial issues.
