Yep, just look at Detroit, decades of voting for democrats and their city is in shambles (high crime, poverty, unemployment, public debt). There are many more examples.

Politics was not the only thing that caused the downfall of Detroit. Industry moving to others countries had a huge effect. I grew up in Flint, and watched tens of thousands lose jobs. I'm quite sure profit not politics drove this move.

i partially agree, but why did that business move? i would argue the cost of doing business became too great due to high taxes, increased regulation, and increased labor cost due to unions (e.g. auto industry), which put them at a great disadvantage compared to their Japanese competitors who could operate at lower costs more efficiently.
