I for one am for SBMM. I always try my hardest and I enjoy the challenge (I wish they had an actual ranking system that I could see though...). That said, connection should be #1 top priority for matchmaking, period. Having such tremendous issues with lag on a constant basis because we are getting matched with people in places I've never heard of is unacceptable. It makes the "try hards" not want to bother trying hard because we end up getting -blam!-ed by lag. This was a major screw up by Bungie and absolutely must get changed now. I personally will not be playing Destiny again until it does get changed, except for a trials run once a week with my buddies. Oh well, at least this leaves me time to finally play MGSV.
