I'm sorry I'm not understanding how a players connection is caused by skill based matchmaking. If you have the patience to explain it that would be nice. As embarrassing as it is I'm hoping it's something incredibly simple.

SBMM makes is flawed and why most people hate it is because it matches you up with people "equal" to your skill right? But it negates the fact those players could be across the continent from you and since we have a P2P connection and no dedicated servers then it will start to lag because of how far away people are. So, the more skilled you are, the further it's going to be in order to find you someone (further as in people further away from you) and the further you are, the more lag you are going to feel. :) hope this helps

Regardless of that though you do bring up a good point in that we shouldn't be connecting with people too far away. Which I'd like to think being more strict on the connection would aid if not outright solve. Though being rather ignorant I can't say. Sorry if I was too much of a dillweed there.
