What all of you that are against SBMM are saying, in reality, is that you need to stomp lower skilled players to remain in the top 1%. Well, in my opinion, stomping lower skilled players never earned you that honor anyway. You now have to actually have top 1% skill to remain in the top 1%, and you don't like that. Too bad. The top 1% will now actually deserve that honor. It will not be "earned" off the frustration of people that can't match your abilities. It will be earned by facing others with the same ability that you have.

  • Its not about skill its about the 5 or so red bars in every single fucking match. Its not fun when your dying from a bullet that went through a wall or teleporting guardians. I dont give two shits about the "meta" or skill. I'd just like to play 1 damn lag free match for the fun of it.

  • For me, I don't mind competition at all. What I have a problem with is the lag that is created by skill based matchmaking. It matches me against opponents all over the world almost every game, which creates insane lag which makes the game unplayable and skill a mute point.

  • The regular Crucible is not about the top 1% or ELO ranks. It's about having fun. They just need to implement ELO based matchmaking playlists for the people who want to be the top 1%. Perfect fix.

  • Bad players will remain bad regardless if SBMM stays in or not. But top tier players suffer from it. We don't get worse at the game we get stressed, salty, and our stats drop. If a top 50% player matches a top 1% player they should lose. Also lag exists because of this.

  • Coming from someone who doesn't even play crucible. Why have such strong opinions over something you don't even participate in. You're clearly unaware of all the lag, or the annoying sweats.

  • I know about the lag, and I stayed out of regular crucible because I can not match up to most players. I did enjoy Iron Banner where my level advantage gave me a chance some times. With SBMM I will likely try crucible now.

  • SBMM isn't going to make you better. It just puts bad players agains bad players and good players against good players. Problem is the good bracket is much smaller making the better players have to deal with lag.

  • How do you people take it this way ? Holy shit dude. Do you not understand how frustrating it would be to have to play sweats EVERY match if you just wanted to play pvp for a little bit ? What don't you get about that ? It destroys the desire to play pvp anymore. I do not give a flying fućk if my k/d suffers, hell it already has. I'm sure the majority of players who have high k/d's don't really care either. It's the fact that pvp matches are stressful 24/7 when they do not need to be. Tell me, where is the fun in that ? No player should be forced into SBMM. It should be optional. Ranked and unranked playlists need to be a thing in Destiny. They did it with their previous Halo titles and it worked just fine. You need to understand that the whole k/d bullshit that everyone keeps trying to bring up is NOT the issue.

  • It is the issue, most just don't want to admit it. Most are the same people that turn their light level down in Iron Banner to try to get matched with lower light people. Tell me where the fun is in loosing every match because you are not as skilled as others you are playing against? If SBMM was not forced, you would never choose it because it would make you earn your K/D. PVPers totally destroyed Destiny in my opinion. Most nerfs were caused by them, because a noob could use a weapon they did not have, and kick their ass with it. They didn't deserve the kills they were getting because it was only because of the weapon power. I hope Bungie keeps SBMM, as it makes people with equal skill, face people with equal skill. Whats so damn unfair about that?

Look, you've hardly played any crucible. Being as I am a top 1% player, this really isn't about level of competition. I enjoy having close intense games, but I also enjoy having relaxing games where I can mess around, try out new weapons, have some fun with NLB, etc. like we could for all of year one. Has my k/d gone down a bit since TTK? Not really. Has my level of fun changed? Absolutely The only option now is to try hard all the time. It's exhausting. It makes us salty and angry. Now a large part of why it makes us salty is that our matchmaking pool of equally skilled players is rather small. Since the game prioritizes skill, we are constantly playing lagging players which completely negates the whole point of the matchmaking attempting to get equally skilled players together. What's seriously sad though, is that ToO aside from games 7-9, is the most relaxing place in the crucible generally for good players. How the matchmaking ran before the taken King was fine. They are legitimately losing players over this because it sucks. Good players will always be good. SBMM is fine in a ranked playlist or the iron banner. It's not fine in a game with no ranked playlists and already questionable net code The skill based matchmaking is also going to increase the amount of try hard required for lower tier players so I'm not sure why you think that it will make your crucible experience better. BTW the only way to get better is to play and play better players is the fastest way to get better

  • What you don't understand is that all top 1% players are top 1% for a reason. The difference is we're pretty much capped on skill the rest is all about communication. It's not earning a K/D because all top 1% players suffer not just some. We all go down. Bottom tier remains bottom tier. Top tier will remain top tier but have nothing to show for it.

  • If you can post a source that states your light lvl determines who you're matched up against, that'd be great. I have never heard or seen that, not once. I've played in every IB set aside from maybe 3 times. The matchmaking previously was set on connections. Not your light lvl... Okay, if you think people wouldn't step into ranked matchmaking: A) then why did people chose to play it on Halo B) add incentives to playing the ranked playlists. Increased drop rates, etc.

  • I didn't say that it worked, but on a lot of different forums this was something suggested a lot. For the sake of finding out if this worked, I equipped a lower level gun bringing my light down to about 300. I ran this way for 3 matches. I was matched with no higher light then 307. I then kicked my light back to my 317, and was not matched with a light level lower then 309. Maybe it was just who was on at the time, but it sure seemed to me that it did make a difference.

  • Last IB all of my characters were ran at 317+ every match. I still saw a handful of matches where the opposite team would have lower than 310's. I honestly don't think it makes any difference at all.

  • Why would I try doing that when I've already seen a variation of light lvls when I was 317+ ? There were several cases where people would be in teams of 2-6 and they had their friends of different light lvls. Your own light lvl makes absolutely no difference outside of the small dmg output. If that had been the case, it would been all over this forum and last IB would've been a complete mess.

  • Not everything gets put on the Bungie fourms. Simply because if it gives an advantage, and goes on the forum, it gets "fixed". I didn't think it would make any difference, but in my experience, it did. I only played 3 matches that way, and I can't say that gives it proof of working, but those 3 matches were filled with lower light players. With this being posted now, I guess more will try doing this, with that in mind I regret saying anything about it, but I am sure if more try it, the forums will now tell the tale.

  • Go read this https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/188142897/0/0 and then come back. If you not a top tier player you will never understand. So we are better than the average, we deserve to match up against people who are on the other side of the world? No that's BS. I and a lot of people wouldn't care less if there were a ranked and casual playlist, and dedicated servers. Not every top tier player like to sweat their ass off to win one match or try a new gun. If you like playing with friends that aren't as good as you then he is going to be miserable playing. This is a casual game. If people like you want competitive then we need private matches, ranked and casual matches and dedicated servers.

  • " I and a lot of people wouldn't care less if there were a ranked and casual playlist" --because you would spend your time in the casual playlist so you could still stomp lower level players. " If you like playing with friends that aren't as good as you then he is going to be miserable playing."--If you are not a great PVP player, this is the normal experience for you without SBMM.

  • I am sorry but you clearly can't comprehend what I and a lot of people are saying. If you are a great PvP player then, at least, you can get better by learning from the people who kill you over and over again. Lag is an unfair advantage to everyone and should be limited. I am sorry but SBMM needs to go. PvP was better for most people before this.

  • Without SBMM i can carry my team. With it I can't because i get matched against other top tier players. Its unfair.

  • You, my friend, at least tell the truth. If I can't stomp on people , and bring my K/D up doing that, its unfair. Its a pretty sad attitude, but at least you are honest about it.
