How about this. Keep sbmm, fix lag,add ranked unranked and private/custom games. Most casual players don't like getting destroyed every game because a couple MLG wannabe tryhards want to boost their kd. It ruins the game for us and we are the vast majority of players. There should be an unranked mode that has no effect on stats or character progression for when people just want to chill. Just go into any classic playlist. There is at least one 315 light fully geared gaurdian boosting his kd by slaughtering lvl 10 guardians equiped with green weapons in every game. how does this help new players enter our community? Any iron banner/trials and ranked game modes should use both sbmm and connection base matchmaking to give everyone a fair shot at having a good experience. There is more than one side to this issue but first thing should be fix the connection issues then go on from there. Which I'm sure Bungie is working on and has been working on for weeks if not months.
