We’ve all been on this roller coaster together for a long time now and those who’ve stayed on the ride and those who’ve jumped off… We all still want the same thing. We want Destiny to be great and even when we spend less time in-game, we’re still here because this community is made up of so many people who genuinely care and want this game to be better and keep hoping Bungie isn’t just listening, but actually taking our thoughts and feedback to heart.
Precisely how I've felt for a long time. I kept playing until recently because I still enjoyed the game, but this game has been torn apart with nearly every decision before and after TTK launched. Now the reality of the futility of playing has set in. Destiny has the facade going on that you're constantly working towards something, but progress is so rapid-fire with regards to achieving a high enough level to partake in any given activity that any of the remaining (and limited) "endgame" is paltry. I'm primarily a solo player and even the 2 people I'd consistently play with have all but abandoned the game, along with my other friends who played consistently. Yet what's the incentive for people to keep playing, especially when the fun of the game has been ripped apart? Solo players can do Heroic Strikes, which have only gotten stingier with their loot, and it's not like they're guaranteed to give you a boost to your Light Level (neither are the Raids), or Crucible, whose only two consistencies are the lag and constant imbalances. Not exactly a fulfilling combination. As for team players? They've got a Raid that doesn't even guarantee them highest Light Level, and even if it did, what then would they have to accomplish? And Trials of Osiris, well, my above point(s) about Crucible still stand. Not to mention the loot, the main reason many of us originally kept playing and grinding, is literally just the same gear we acquired before, only it's constantly nerfed into oblivion, so not only are we experiencing deja vu, but that very experience has gone from feeling like warm bread fresh out of the oven to now being stiff, stale and mold-ridden. At least one Destiny channel has proposed that the remaining Exotics we were supposed to get with TTK may come with the February update/event, but I honestly believe it'll be too little too late. Especially considering how underwhelming new gear has been, as well as how anything strong or otherwise competent gets frequently used and is promptly neutered. The best indication of the future is past behavior. What's funny (yet simultaneously tragic) is that I saw The Revenant just last night, and the one scene that's still stuck with me involves a bear.
When the bear spots Leonardo DiCaprio, it immediately attacks and severely wounds him. There's blood, scrapes and screams. It's intense. The scene pulverized me, yet it left Leo's character debilitated to the point you agree with the film's antagonist when he says "best thing to do would be to kill him now, give him a clean finish." Leo's encounter with the bear creates a terrible plight for him, one full of anguish, one that any one of us would have given up on long before him.
Essentially, I see Destiny as Leonardo DiCaprio's character in The Revenant and Bungie as the bear, except the bear always comes back to put Leo through more pain and suffering.
