The Days Have Turned... (Destiny's Will to Death)

Hope is a funny thing. It can get you to the next day, but it can also lead to disappointment. Destiny was built and marketed on hope and each day we wait for that hope to be realized and each day it slips further away. A year and a half ago, we had the hope of what Destiny would be. Five months ago we had the hope of year 2. Two weeks ago we had the hope of a new calendar year. Yesterday the forums, reddit and gaming sites were once again aflame with the absolute train wreck that is the state of the crucible, the endless lag, connection issues and yet another broken (Nightfall) Strike. How have we gotten here? Year one for all its flaws and for all this game wasn't in terms of the giant explorable solar system many of us expected, was still immensely fun. If there was one complaint to rule them all in year one it was accessibility and the lack of built in matchmaking features. There was this amazing content in the VoG and it was like an actual job to try to group up to play it. Yes there were other issues like Vault space, zoo errors, bad economies and initially the loss of vanilla gear with TDB, but the strikes were all fun, PvP was a blast and the weapons were phenomenal. Year 2 had problems from the start. First with wonky pricing and making year one players re-buy content to get bonus exclusives, to eventually gutting the game for anyone who didn't purchase the expansion. For a lot of players that was the jumping off point, but for those who purchased TTK, it really had a lot to offer at the start. The new content (yes it can be debated what constitutes "new" as the Dreadnaught was later found to be the original final level) offered more story than we'd gotten in all of year one. The new missions and strikes were fun. The gunsmith and Armsday were a fresh addition. The new subclasses were all a blast and the overall presentation was smoother with the changes to bounty and quest logs. After my playtime in HoW dropping to mainly just Iron Banner when it would roll around, I was back to playing all the time and it started out pretty great until I leveled up all 3 new subclasses. That’s when it first became apparent that unless you had a raid group or wanted to wade into the epeening world of LFG, there was about 4 days worth of meaningful content to run a week and after that there were basically almost no marks or meaningful rewards to acquire until the next reset. When TTK dropped, one of the things that immediately jumped out was how freely purples (and with 3oC, exotics as well) flowed compared to year one. From the first 3 strikes of the week, to Armsday requisitions, it seemed we'd find great gear much easier. The reality ended up being something quite a bit different. In year one I was constantly finding new things to try and they'd become my new favorite. Cryptic Dragon Suros MIDA B-Line Trauma Vanquisher Up for Anything Three Little Words Coiled Hiss Hygeia Noblesse Na3d1 Salvation State Plug One Wizard 77 Plan C Truth Dragons Breath (I liked it) Gjally LDR (all 3 elements) Saterienne Rapier Icebreaker Abyss Defiant Every time something new dropped, it had the potential to be great and not only that, but unique versions of them would drop. I still have 3 Coiled Hiss, one with 3rd Eye, one with glass half full and one the perfect balance laser from the vendor. The weapons year one (and particularly once they introduced Etheric Light to bring forward vanilla gear) were beyond awesome. Year 2 saw us lose all that, but there was the hope that the new gear would prove even better. Instead, 5 months into TTK (yeah, it's been that long), I still not only have yet to find weapons I like or that work as well as my year one weapons, but the semi-decent shit I do find, I can't get with perk rolls I want. Seriously, I've leveled up DO probably 30 times since TTK dropped and not one time have I gotten a Hung Jury in a rewards package. I don't -blam!-ing want Firefly; I want Full Auto, 3rd Eye and/or Explosive Rounds. Same for Last Extremity, hasn't -blam!-ing dropped. It's like the game sees I don't use shotguns, Sidearms or Hand Cannons and gives me them every single -blam!-ing time. 5 month into this Expansion my main weapon is still Last Extremity and I barely used it last IB because of the stupid nerfs that made using Scouts "a crutch". Literally everything I use regularly I got within the first 2 weeks of TTK dropping. Bungie will take that and turn it into their vindication for all the tragic weapon "balancing" they've done, but the fact of the matter is that over the first 8 months this game was out until they decided to completely -blam!- ARs, I used more and loved more weapons in this game than I have in all the time since. When Destiny launched anything was viable. Special ammo was basically infinite and yet I used my primary 90% of the time in PvP. It wasn't until ARs were nerfed that the dawn of the shotgun descended upon us and it's been one painful debacle after another since. I'm not going to go into that full history here as there are enough threads about Weisnewski and his pathological destruction, but the fact is that 5 months into TTK there just aren't any interesting weapons to acquire (even raid gear) and the few that are somewhat interesting either have been nerfed to the point of being pointless or are just not worth the endless grind trying to get versions with perks that just won't ever drop. And that unfortunately brings us to the final straw that's broken year 2 which is all the content that we did love and that was great that was left behind. And no, not just all the amazing gear and weapons. Winter's Run Summoning Pit Devil's Lair The Nexus VoG Crota's End PoE Flaming -blam!-ing Skulls Nightfall XP bonuses Yeah we got Sparrow Racing and it was fun, but it wasn't enough to counter this last weapon patch that was the final straw for a lot of people or the way TTK has failed to evolve and add to its initial promise at all.
Inscrutable loot filled fortress
I bet I haven't been to the dreadnaught in a month and a half. I know Bungie read our posts and I genuinely believe that some like Cozmo, the artists, programmers and designers probably care immensely about this game, but I'm not sure anymore that the passions of those who pour their hearts into this game are enough to overcome the minds of those determined to shape it into the twisted caricature it's become. I don't know DeeJ personally, but we all know he doesn't play Destiny. I have no doubt that Mr. Weisnewski is a grand fellow irl, but I hold him more responsible for making this game unplayable than anyone else. So what are the answers and what can fix this? CONTENT AND FUN. Two things that have been ripped from this game at every turn. We never got more powerful, we got nerfed. We didn't find new worlds to explore; we were forced to abandon those we loved. We’ve all been on this roller coaster together for a long time now and those who’ve stayed on the ride and those who’ve jumped off… We all still want the same thing. We want Destiny to be great and even when we spend less time in-game, we’re still here because this community is made up of so many people who genuinely care and want this game to be better and keep hoping Bungie isn’t just listening, but actually taking our thoughts and feedback to heart. It's time to bring back the old content. It's time to make year one strikes and raids relevant again. It's time to roll back all the weapon balancing (the road to hell is paved with those well intentioned patches). IT'S TIME TO BRING FORWARD ALL YEAR ONE WEAPONS and it's time to let us play how we want to play and not how some dev wants us to play this month, because I can tell you right now, I have played exactly once since the last IB ended and it just pissed me off to use the wreck that are weapons in 2.0.1 I have said before that I understand that 90% of Bungie are working on Destiny 2 and I hope to God that they are learning from the sins of this release, but that does not excuse year 2 being butchered and left to die. Hope. It's a funny thing and it's sad watching it die.

  • Newsk is a piece of shit who tries to spin all his weapon nerfs by claiming that they are working as intended, and it's just the dumb ass players that can't figure it out. He's a prick.

  • before i begin id like to say i agree completely with every point on this board but let me just say that when i first purchased destiny on my xbox as many other fans of bungies previous halo series that while i heard many people dislike the game for lack of story in its initial release and 2 subsequent dlc i enjoyed the game because story and open world wasnt my priority in a game i think what happened was noone was expecting a game that completely switched gears from what they had been doing for the past 10+ years which was creating closed level fps scifi games with deep story to back it up meanwhile most mmorpgs consist of multiple modes to play {strikes patrols etc} and less of a story mode and more grinding for gear and for the lack of lore just remember that the game people most compare destiny which is warframe at its initial release had no story outside of the tutorial just 'cryosleep has removed your memory prepare for combat' and then 'ttyl bye bye' then it was literally find some backup and shoot some bad guys but it started off with microtransactions to pay for subsequent updates destiny didnt have those on its release so we had to pay for dlc and its slowly getting improved. basically what im saying is all mmorpgs start small and get bigger we just need to be patient and remember its not halo that were playing right now its a game built around playing the same missions to get engrams and become more powerful and to assist new players of the game and other games like this barely have any story or reason to play besides getting more powerful to get more powerful gear

  • Bungie is too damn stingy with rewards. They have become the Scrooge of rewards. They don't want players progressing too fast so they slowed everything down to a snails crawl and players are leaving. It's just not worth the time to play this game anymore. Light leveling grinding , RNG rewards, Cryptard BS, the horrendous reputation meters , and terrible rewards from nightfalls and more. It's just not worth it.

I agree with the OP, the taken king expansion was fun in the beginning. Then I felt really empty and realized that there are no drops to look forward to to keep you going. I have said it a thousand times, please make the year one weaponry available at higher levels again!! The guns are this game and is what made Y1 so much fun. At least make it possible to reroll the new guns....

    • They probably will never even respond to a well written thread like this. Make a comical post and they post there immediately. Don't know why it can't go something like this: "Ok, I'll tell the devs" "The devs said x"

    • Sadly, all of the people I used to play with quit playing a couple months ago leaving me to play the game the way I started, solo. I quickly realized that so much of this game is not meant for solo play making it real boring and pointless. I finally hit my limit with the last IB, especially with the horrible matchmaking. Going 0-10 several times with 2 of my characters made me realize that the shelf life of this game was finally expiring for me. So I hung it up. I logged back on a couple of days ago thinking I'd run the daily story and maybe a Crucible match or two. Got to my character screen and realized the passion for this game was gone and I felt a pang of depression realizing that the 100+ I got to know through this game were all long gone. A game should be built around fun and it seems any element of fun has long been gone in this game. The constant changes, tweaks, nerfs, and removal of content hasn't helped. Unless something short of a miracle happens in the next few months, I'll hold out hope that Destiny 2 will deliver in ways that this game failed to do. I'm also never again pre-ordering anything. I'll wait a week or two the next to make sure the game is worth getting.

    • I wish people could just realise that NOT playing destiny would help resolve their issues. 1. You would be free of disappointment by forgetting this crap game and let us please face it. It's corrupt crap. 2. If you STOP watching those destiny supporting streamers you are helping bungie realise a game in this state holds no interest. 3. Bungie would soon pull their shit together when the number of log ins per day dwindle (we cattle are their joyus income, why do we still produce such great tasting milk when we are abused and mistreated?) Guys I know we all want this to be the game we were promised but the game is still in this state after so long now... It is impossible. Only with a new fresh start (Destiny 2) will bungie be able to prove they are still THAT company capable of greatness. Do you want destiny 2 to rip you off too? No public chat? Crap unexciting updates? Repeatative dull lifeless missions? No matchmaking? I could go on.. and it will happen because we are all supporting this model right now. It's obviously making them money right now no matter how much we bitch and complain, all we have to do is walk away and realise our words are never going to be strong enough to fight back

        • My god, I guess I am more thankful that a video has not taken my life over so much as it has yours. In no way do I agree with most of the things Bungie has done and in no way have I wasted my time reading that long post but in the end......THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. Holy shit, people really waste this much of their own existence with something that does not matter to anything other than to have fun and kill time in between what should be a real life? Sol's, man I feel bad for you and I hope you are not just some fat zitty virgin kid in your parents basement thinking this is the end all of life. ITS A VIDEO GAME, TURN IT OFF AND GO OUTSIDE.

            • I feel bad for deej and cos sometimes. They get so much hate thrown at them but they are just mouth pieces. They are told what to tell us and how to tell it, and if not they have to wing it. They didn't develop the game. They have no say what should and should be done. They tell the bigs what we say and how we feel, and that's it. They don't get to go into the board room and be like the people want me this changed, do it. They are hired to be the scapegoats bc the real decision makers are too scared to come anywhere near social media to discuss who what when were why of their failures. Bet if this game did well and everybody live it to the point of getting destiny tattoos, you can bet your ass all the devs content creators owners board room members would be all up in this Sh!t everyday talking to us. But since it gets so much hate, they hire people like nuh uh, you go deal with it. Community managers. PR people. That's all deej and cos are. Like major Nelson for Xbox. Sure they don't communicate everything we need want to know, but hell if they are getting pertinent information to tell us, why would they even try? Tell them this, tell them that, and when we grill them about it, and they don't know the answers so have to get indirect about it, what else can they do? Ask me a question about something I have.no clue about, and I'm getting paid to have those answers, but they won't give me proper answers to field your questions, I'm going to bullshit about it too. And so will you. You can only say I don't know let me find out so.many times before you figure out they rent going to tell you so you can't tell them. They didn't make the game. They have no investment in it but to try and field the hate and relay messages back and forth. And of the thousands of posts on b.net, you think they just sit around all day reading the forums? Not only b.net but Twitter, instagram, Facebook and any other social media? They got to travel and have meetings with reporters and go to events and so all kinds of dumb pr stuff. Not sit around 24 7 and wipe your tears and snot bubbles. If you 'll were SERIOUS about getting heard, you do know ALL OF BUNGIEA EMAIL ADDRESES are public right? All of Activision heads all the way up to The pres are available. They have an address to the company. You forgot how to mail a letter? They have phone numbers. You forgot how to call and voice your concerns? Imagine what they would HAVE to do when thousands upon thousnds of calls flood bungle and Activision corporate offices with disgruntled consumers. Imagine If thousands upon thousands of emails get flooded to the bugs email inboxes about what we want fixed. Imagine what would happen if every day thousands upon thousands of snail mail started flooding their offices. But nope. You want to sit around and.blame two pr people who have.nothing to do with the creation or maintenance of a game. That's the generation we have now. A generation that doesn't have a clue on how to put foot to ass or lighter under butt cheek to get things done, except by thinking posting something in a forum is going.to get anything accomplished after the fact that you know for sure it a not working. And that's why your tears fall to the floor unnoticed. /rant 😁

              • my only question is how many people will buy Destiny 2 after all is said and done? With all the lies I am not sure I want to get it if they same people are in charge so I ask what say you will you get it if the same people run the show or will we be the same no look but jump off the cliff gamers?

I gave the 100th like! :-) Anyway, FUN should be tattooed on the foreheads of every Bungie/Activision employee. Let them make sure weapons and armor drop like crazy. Let them bring back reforge. Let them bring back ALL year one content. Let every weapon be great. Make sure we don't know what the hell we want to use! Let's remove all year 2 weapon perks. There is not a single one I prefer over year one perks. Let sparrow racing be permanent. Until a month ago, I was pretty addicted to this game. The last few weeks I just gave up on this game. For 1,5 years we put so much -blam!-ing great feedback on these forums. Maybe 4% of those ideas are used. For -blam!-s sake: something simple as transmog is STILL NOT IN THE GAME! I just gave up on the idea that Bungie will ever truly listen. The content is so cut, it's boring. Xur is not exciting anymore. The weapons are also boring. The meta is stale. Everything is just "meh". I just gave up on this game and it feels pretty relaxed. Let us all stop putting effort in ideas for this game. It will never come. They will never listen. They will say "I give it to the dev's", and there it will die. In 4 months a new season of OP auto rifles will emerge. In 9 months auto rifles will be nerfed so hard nobody wants to use them anymore. Hand cannons will be the new meta and if you don't own a hand cannon, you're -blam!-ed. This game is in potential the greatest FPS ever made. But I don't think Bungie/Activision really wants to own the greatest game ever made. They just want to have the most addictive game that makes the most money. P.S. Sols, post your acoustic Misfits cover here. :-)
