The Future

I was watching a video discussion about the future of Destiny. It made me want to start a discussion. About constructive criticism that we need Bungie to hear to make the next game all that it can be. Bungie needs to be focused with Destiny 2. Many are aware of the issues that Bungie had prior to the release of Destiny. This led to a direction change and the scrapping of a lot of their original ideas in favor of a new game that missed its mark in some areas. I am confident the next game will have a more focused direction and clear goal from the start. Destiny 2 can be a great game. But I have some suggestions I really want to get out there... -AI and the world. This is the most important subject for me and the one I have the most ideas for. Right now my ONLY connection to Destiny is the other players. Let us connect to the world as well. ---NPCs in the world right now are either vending machines or quest terminals. Throw some NPCs in somewhere to defend against some generic enemies. Or some NPCs you can save from an ambush, etc. etc. ---Let us earn some followers and/or pets. --- Let us enter and explore the city. This is the thing I am protecting but I only get to see it from a difference. I realize this means creating a large area that would be largely non combat oriented but this could give me, as a player, some real purpose to fight. -----------Let this be where the crucible is located. Players could actively watch games by literally walking into a spectator booth to watch a rivalry game between two teams. This could get into RPing about esports and such. -----------Make it a level in the campaign where the city has been invaded. This is your home. Take it back. ---Make the city under attack. Nothing feels at stake there. Make it a little beat down on the walls. Make people running supply lines to the front. I'm not saying make it dark and dreary but give it some life. Its the last city of the human race and our last stand. Make it feel like it. ---Let us help defend the wall in a horde mode style. ---Make public events interesting. Make some end game ones specifically. Defend a castle from a rampaging ogre army or something crazy. Don't just make it just some objective you need to do to get some materials. ---Make boss fights unique and interesting. This will require a lot of effort. There should be a lot of bosses. But you can't have bullet sponges in Destiny 2. This can't happen. This is a bigger problem than the storytelling. Which leads into my next point. -Storytelling. The stories told in Halo were deep and interesting. Bungie's track record before Destiny was near perfect for me. The storytelling in Destiny failed. ---I don't have many specifics for this topic but I think a lot of it relies on making interesting NPCs and villains. Voice actors and writing for the voice actors should be top notch. Nathan Fillion and Nolan North are good. Dinklebot was comically bad. Adding on to this. A lot of times an environment can tell the story. A lot of this was touched in my previous point. Make the world alive and things should naturally come together. ---There were hints of something special in those cards and item descriptions. Give us more of that for side stories but get us more involved in the existing story. The Taken King made improvements but it was not up to par. And by the time that released a lot of people had Destiny off their radar. -Raids. Raids are fun. Raids have good loot. ---Make a lot of them. Don't ship the game with one raid. Ship with 5. ---Put your most creative minds in charge of this because this is the thing that makes people play destiny for 30 more hours putting together a team and getting that rare drop. ---But the important thing is to have quantity AND quality. Five bad raids is sadder than one lonely good one. ---Have a server browser for it. Standard Matchmaking is out. I get it. But this allows people to actively choose who they are joining with and whatnot. Give hosts of games rating systems. This means nothing outside the server browser for raids but it allows players in the browser to see who is the host that sticks around for the duration of the raid and helped out the team. This can mean people are actively joining the trustworthy guys and the not trustworthy guys will have to stick to joining. A lot of this stuff requires a lot of work. I don't think it would be possible for them to get all of these ideas in the game HOWEVER I know that they have the resources to improve in a lot of areas. All that said... Destiny 1 is a well done game in many aspects. I am excited for the future. Thoughts?
