Of course, they'll still do something, in the same way that rain makes things wet. But when youre trying to kill someone before they kill you, the single/burst fire is going to hit at range a hell of a lot faster than any auto. A 9mm will kill at over 500yards, but youre not killing anything with a full auto glock at that range. You use a carbine. Its just not feasible to expect an auto to deal the full amount of damage that you put in the air. Thats why the damag drop off at a distance. It may look like youre aiming at them, but that doesnt mean youre hitting them

Apparently you're supposed to aim a little above the target. But yeah. A carbine would definitely kill something from a decent range and assault rifles probably could but never anything smaller than an Uzi. It just won't hit hard enough.
