I think the speaker mentions the nine.

  • Yes. We get, from him, "If only the Nine would help." Also, from the Postmaster, "Package for Xûr... What is Xûr?" Think that's it.

  • Alright, then the Speaker might have some connection with them "spiritually" maybe talk through the void if the Speaker is ever confirmed as Warlock. Although he is mysterious, only time will tell if he really has a connection to them.

  • Do you think it's possible that the Speaker isn't even a Guardian? He kind of reminds me of a Pope, in that, he comes in and claims he can speak with/commune with our God (the Traveller) and everyone just accepts it because, after all, no one has ever heard the Traveller speak, anyway.

  • That was the talk of the town for a while, like the Speaker was just a fanatic leading us in his own way. But that died somehow, I'd like to see the whole foundation of the Tower dissolve, similar to how the Cataclysm expansion from World of Warcraft was breaking the ground around us, and in Mists of Pandaria, Grommash Hellscream (Horde Chief) betrays the whole world basically. So I'm holding a feeling that either the Speaker turns us onto our heads, or The Nine decide to "expose" the Traveler, or we get split apart and create factions that either are with the Traveler, or against it.

  • Myself, I'm not very fond of the idea of the Traveller being the villain. Though I agree it'd be interesting to see the Nine expose the Speaker, as even Osiris didn't trust him, either. I think the Traveller truly is either dead or near dead, waiting for the Guardians to vanquish its enemies so that it can heal again. I think the Speaker is merely exploiting a bad time for the Traveller.
