Does K/D really matter?

Yes, K/D is ALL I look at and care about!

No, K/D doesn't show your skill set!

To start things off, I'v only had Destiny and a PS4 for about 3 months so I haven't built my K/D that much, and yes, I know that a K/D is what half of players look for first in a player. But why? Yea, having a high K/D means your "Better" but you have to take that with a grain of salt. Just like with Light lvl's, light doesn't equal skill . Across most FPS's I have played, I have had a .80 to 1.75 K/D. So that means that in most games I roughly go positive. Same with Destiny. I love the PvP (Most of the time) and the way Bungie brought it all together. I personally in Destiny don't have the best K/D even though 90% of game I go at LEAST 1.0. But the other 10% of the time I'm either warming up, have garbage team mates who cant watch my back, and or I'm just dicking around with friends and dying on purpose. But that small 10% can have a huge representation on you K/D in a bad way. Right now I'm sitting a .90 K/D in normal Crucible. Which isn't great, but inst terrible. Even though I could hope in a Pub right now and go 15-2, I still have a negative K/D. But does K/D really show your skill, or just the fact that you can get more kills than deaths? I'm mainly just ranting/bitching about this because even though I go positive 90% of the time, when I'm trying to find a Fireteam on LFG for trials, people wont even give me a change because I have a negative K/D. They base everything off K/D and not skill or even equipment. What do you guys think? DOES K/D show your skill set and level, or does it show that you can sit in the back of the map with a sniper half the game and get kills? Have you guys experienced this before? Should you give someone a chance in a normal PvP match before taking them to Trials just so see if what they say is true? Maybe I'm just a cry baby who's bad at the game. Hahaha.

  • Difficult to answer but I'd say no it doesn't matter, it isn't an accurate representation of skill level. It's merely a kills to deaths average. I'm a Voidwalker, I often play extremely aggressively. Getting in my opponents faces and blowing it away with Invective or trying to get to a spawn/ammo drop and blowing up as many as possible. I play my Voidwalker kinda like a juggernaut, I'm going to rush and kill as many people as I possibly can and if I only trade with one person so be it. Now that being said, I do play smart and play objectively. I try to get at least 2 kills for every 1 life. But even then if I see a chance to stop my opponents plans by blinking into a situation and causing havoc then so be it. The Striker is the same way, I trade with Shotguns so many times because I'm trying to shoulder charge them. Other days I play conservatively. I camp, and wait. I hold choke points and aid my teammates. This leads to great K/D but in the long run is rather boring. In the end I think people put too much stock into K/D and if you're a 1.5+ you're obviously doing something right. But if you're out there having fun and helping your team win that's good too. My best advice would be as others have said, play smart. Try not to do anything stupid and die needlessly. But other than that have fun.
