Wesson the Warlock Chapter 3.3 That Ends Well

Wesson and Lucia turned around to see two ghosts floating behind them. One was smaller than most ghosts and had a neon pink shell with black stripes that formed the shape of a diamond around her core. Her name was Athena. Her focus would constantly shift from one thing to the next as she tried to avoid eye contact. The other, named Virgil, was slightly bigger and had a black shell with orange stripes that radiated outward. He had a more stoic presence about him as he watched the other ghost. "Hello." Lucia smiled as she greeted the ghosts. "Oh, um, hi." Athena said shyly as she looked at Lucia through the corner of her shell. "Aww! You are so adorable!" Lucia exclaimed. "Thank you." The little ghost mumbled as her core turned a pinkish color. "Ahem. Athena, would you like to give him the ultimatum?" Virgil asked. Athena looked straight at him and shook her core. "No." "You were supposed to deliver the ultimatum to Wesson." "I don't have an old tomato to give him though." Athena said as she clearly did not know what ultimatum meant. "ULTIMATUM. It's kinda like a message. You were supposed to give Wesson a message." "But why can't you do it Virgil? You heard the message too." Athena protested. "Because Dante said for you to tell him." "Why should I listen to Dante? He's not the Traveller." "I am telling you to give Wesson the ultimatum, er, message." "You're not the Traveller either." "You listen to Diana, but she is not the Traveller." Virgil said in an attempt to reason with Athena. "Diana didn't tell me to give Wesson a message." Virgil sighed and tilted his shell downward. "Look. You are just giving the message to Wesson. Is he a mean person?" "He says mean things to Diana all the time." "That was a bad example." Virgil thought about how he should have worded that question. "Has he ever been mean to you?" "No. He's always nice to me." "Then, what is wrong with giving him the message?" Athena wanted to say something else, but realized she was beat. "Nothing." She mumbled. She whipped herself around to face away from Virgil. "Fine, I'll tell him." She pouted. She looked at Virgil quickly, and if she had a tongue she would have been sticking it out, then floated closer to Wesson. "Yes?" Wesson said. "Uh, I have a message for you from Diana. It's not an old tomato." "I didn't think it was." Wesson laughed. "So what's the message?" "Diana says that she is sorry, and she would appreciate it if you apologized in return." Athena said slowly, trying to deliver the message as clearly as possible. "I highly doubt she said that." Wesson responded. Athena gasped and looked at Virgil, afraid that she had delivered the message wrong. "You did good Athena." Virgil said while patting her on the shell. He then looked at Wesson. "Dante thought you might say that, so he told me to tell you that he was the one who sent us." "Okay, that makes more sense. Virgil, you can tell Diana that I am tired of putting up with her sh*t, so there is no way in..." "Wesson." Lucia butted in. Wesson looked at her "What?" "Do you really think that is the appropriate response?" Lucia said calmly. "Well, for Diana, yeah." "Wesson, if you want for this to end, for her to stop controlling you, you have to stop responding in the way that she expects." "Okay, so how should I respond?" "Well, you can't feed the Void with Void." Wesson thought about what she could possibly mean. "Elaborate." "Accept her apology, and apologize to her regardless of whether you think you are in the wrong or not." "And how will that help?" "Has your other approach worked?" "I see your point." Wesson said before turning to look at Athena, who was still worried that she had messed up. "Athena, tell Diana that I am really, really, really sorry, and that I forgive her." Athena perked up a little bit. "Really?" "Really." Wesson smiled. "Okay." Athena said as she was about to speed off. "Whoa, hold up, I'm not finished yet." Wesson said before she could leave. "What?" "I promise that I'll try my best to not say mean things to Diana anymore." Athena floated up close to Wesson's face and pecked him on the cheek. "Thank you." Then she flew off in the direction she came from with Virgil close behind. "You'll never be able to keep that promise. You know that right?" Lucia said as she watched the two ghosts fly off. Wesson was completely aware of what he had said. "The key phrase is 'try my best.'" "Okay, right." Lucia turned to look at Wesson and smiled. "She is so precious." "Yeah, she is kinda cute." Wesson responded without thinking. He face palmed and mumbled. "Oh God." Lucia laughed. "So what do you mean when you say she is cute?"
