Wesson the Warlock Chapter 3.2 All's Well

Wesson sat on the steps in front of the station's main entrance looking out at the square. The Traveller hung in the air only a few miles above his head, completely eclipsing the midday Sun. Below it the square was lit only by the ambient light of the sky and the decorations for the festival. "This is so beautiful." Lucia said as she sat down beside Wesson. "Huh?" Wesson looked back to see who was there. "Oh, yeah." He said in a somber tone as he returned his gaze to the distant horizon. Lucia studied Wesson's eyes trying to understand what was going on inside his mind. She had witnessed this side of him before, even to the extent of being on the receiving end. She wanted to chastise him for his behavior, but looking at his eyes, she could see that he was already broken enough. So, what should she say to him? After all, how could she speak to him? She wanted for him to wake up and see the people that were hurt because of him. However, the pain in his eyes told her that he was well aware. "So, is this your plan, to be miserable during the Light Festival?" Lucia asked. "No. I did not plan for any of this." Wesson said in an agitated tone. "Oh that's right, you don't plan anything out. You like to live in the moment..." Lucia paused and took a deep breath. "No, I'm not perpetuating this any further." Wesson turned his head to look at her. "What are you talking about?" "Please tell me you're not that blind." "Well, I don't know, maybe if you would explain to me what you're talking about, I might get it!" "She's a Nightstalker, Wesson! That's what they do! They deceive and play tricks with your head until they get you to do what they want!" Lucia shouted. "And she's been playing you all day to get rid of me." "What? There's no way... Well, actually I wouldn't put it past her to do something like that," Wesson said as he thought about it. "But there is no way she controls me well enough to make me get rid of you." "You really are that blind." Lucia said. "I see it. Byron can see it. Dante can see it, and from what I know about him so far, I'm surprised he can see anything from the neck up. She said it right in front of you, and you even said it yourself, yet you still can't see it!" Wesson was pondering what Lucia was talking about. "Well, would you mind explaining what it is that I cannot see?" Lucia looked at him. Her eyes softened betraying her sadness for him. "She wants to make you miserable." "Yeah, I get that part." "No, Wesson. She wants to make you miserable to drive us apart, so she can make sure you stay miserable without her." Wesson started to calm down as his emotions mirrored hers. "That doesn't make any sense." "Yes it does. Look, you've clearly told her the details of our breakup." Lucia explained. Wesson nodded as she continued. "And she has seen how you get once you've been pushed far enough. She knows you will blindly lash out if you're not given a chance to vent, and she made a well educated guess that I would care enough to check on you..." Wesson started to understand. "But I would rather be alone when I'm in this state, in which case, we would've started fighting again just like the day we broke up. Sh*t! How did I not see that?" Lucia wrapped her arms around him and laid her head on his shoulder. "Because she's a Siren singing a different song. She still wants you to crash into the rocks, even if she has to make you angry enough to ram her." Lucia moved her hand around to place it on his heart. "And she's had you caught under her spell ever since she put an arrow through your heart." Wesson's heart stung when her hand passed over it, as if she had uncovered a physical wound. Though, it was more of a healing sting than anything else, and it felt like the warmth from her hand was melting through years of ice and finally filling the void inside. He smiled as he thought about what she said, about her. "You're right. You are absolutely right. And I'm sorry..." Wesson paused. "For everything." "It's not your fault. Well, it's not entirely your fault." Lucia said. Wesson reached for Lucia's hand on his chest and held it tightly. "No, it is my fault. I shouldn't have walked out on you in the first place." Lucia looked at him. "Wesson, that was three years ago." "I know, but after everything I said to you." Wesson sighed. "You deserve better..." Lucia put her finger up to his mouth. "That was three years ago, and you are forgiven. I forgive you." She said slowly as if she was explaining a foreign concept to him. "You sound like Geneva telling me I deserve better." She said while smiling. "And maybe I do, but I can think of no one else I could possibly want more than you. And right now, all I want is to have my best friend and my love back." Wesson just looked at her for a few seconds as his mind processed everything she said. He smiled back at her. "If only I knew where to find him." Lucia laughed and punched him on the shoulder. "You are such an a**." "I know." "Uh, um, excuse me." A shy voice said from behind them. Table of Contents https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/178085398/0/0link
