I think he's referring to the 5% part being about trials specifically, not pvp.

If he actually elaborated more and didn't just talk in broad statements maybe we could begin to understand his ramblings

These 2 short paragraphs together state, someone post the numbers of how many "actually compete in ToO" and then "5% of the player base". So, criticizing his point is fair, but criticism of his lack of elaboration, at least on this point, is unwarranted.
