Check out all other Brave Light episodes right here!
Hayden (calling out): See anything?! Liz starts to head back. Liz: Nope! The two meet halfway, standing side-by-side as they look out onto the blazing lunar horizon of the Moon. Zale is crouched next to them, inspecting what they believe is a set of footprints. Zale: It's gotta be out here somewhere... They take a minute to look around the area again when, all of a sudden, Zale breaks into a sprint away from the footprints. Hayden: What the hell! Liz: Where are you going?! The two start running after him, just barely keeping pace with the Hunter. They try to catch up, but to no avail. The wind blows into their faces as they manage to inch closer and closer. Eventually, the Hunter stops in his tracks. Hayden and Liz crash into each other as they slow to a stop. The two sit up, panting with exhaustion. Hayden (in between breaths): You mind telling us what that was?! Zale: ...I saw something on my motion tracker. It was a beacon from the school. The two pull themselves up. Liz: What? Where? Zale: I was following it, but it stopped transmitting.... Zale firmly placed is foot on a spot of ground in front of him. Zale: Right here. Liz: Which means it's gotta be nearby. Zale: Yup... The three turn in a circle, looking around. Space Center buildings were circled all around the three guardians: Tall, with at least three floors and balconies jutting out. All of the doors are open, darkness seeping out from within the depths of each building. A loud screech blares throughout the area, echoing throughout the structures and all around the Guardians. Hayden (to the others): Hey Zale? Zale: Yeah? Hayden: You're Fallen. Sort of... If you were following a group of Guardians and had planned to ambush them, where would you do it? Zale looks around at the buildings and returns his gaze to Hayden. Zale: Right here... The guardians immediately lift their weapons and form a circle, now aiming out ward at the buildings as they stand back-to-back. Liz: We should've waited for reinforcements. Hayden: No shit. Silence followed the Titan's words. For a few minutes, the only audible sound was the wind blowing through the air. And then, it began. Zale: CONTACT! From the shadows of the Western building swarmed a horde of shanks, all jetting themselves forward at the guardians. One by one, the shanks fell against the Guardians' shots that were now spraying at the regiment of machines. The size grew, though. It seemed as if ever time one was killed, two more took flew in to take its place. Some fired back in a flurry of arc bolts, but most fell in an instant after being hit. More and more flooded through the adjacent buildings and began to spread out. Eventually, they began swarming in through all of the buildings around them, laying siege to the three Guardians' position. Liz: This is insane! Where are they all coming from?! Hayden switched to his machine gun and began laying fire upon the mass of Shanks. Hayden: They were waiting for us! It's the only reason why– LOOK OUT! An exploder shank flew out of the swarm, like a firefly among ants as its overcharging battery lit up a yellow spark in the darkness. Zale unsheathed his knife in the midst of the chaos and threw it at the brightly-lit shank. When the blade ruptured the drone's chassis, a burst of red and orange flames swirled out from the explosion, taking down a couple other shanks with it. Zale: He's down! The moment its shell had fallen to the ground, two more exploders flew from within the horde. Then three. Then four. Then five. Eventually, more than half of the entire swarm was lit up, flashing red and yellow all around the Guardians. Liz: RUN! Hayden created an opening in the swarm with a lightning grenade, through with they began to sprint away from the colony of exploder shanks. They began running downhill away from the group of buildings, but the horde if shanks followed on their heels. Zale: WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! Liz: I have an idea! See that trench over there? Liz pointed at a large dip in the ground a little bit further ahead. Zale and Hayden nodded as they ran, nearly out of breath. When they got closer, the three of them slid into the crook in the ground. Liz: Get down! Liz glided back up out of cover, a purple aura now clouding around her body. With a large push of force, she threw her right arm forward and sent a Nova Bomb whirling out against the shanks. When the dark-violet orb flew into the swarm, a large burst of purple and orange erupted from within, growing larger and larger until the flames swallowed up nearly all of the shanks in a magnificent explosion flying upward into the sky. Zale and Hayden were quiet, mesmerized by the brilliance of the Warlock's void mixed with the flames. The flames slowly died back down, eventually reducing to nothing but a small set of embers, surrounded by the dead metal carcasses of shanks that were now falling from the sky. Hayden: ......wow..... Zale: Well that was certainly somethin'... --------------------- The three of them began walking among the wreckage of shanks, their feet leaving prints in the flame-scarred surface of the Moon. Zale: You think they're dead? Liz (looking at him): Probably. The three of them stopped when Zale stepped up to one of the buildings; the one from which the horde originally emerged. After turning his head towards the building, the Hunter began to hear something. Zale: Hear that? Hayden: No, what is it? Instead of responding, Zale stepped over the countless bodies of shanks and through the door. Once inside, he dug deeper and deeper into the pile of metal until Hayden and Liz could no longer see him. Eventually, his muffled voice sounded out from within. Zale (Inaudibly): Houn itph. Hayden (calling back): What?! A couple seconds later, Zale came crashing outside through the rubble, landing in the ground before the other two guardians. A loud beeping sound was coming from his hand. Zale: Found it. The Hunter stood up and brushed off his gear, spending the most time to straighten his cloak. When the two looked at him, he held up a cylindrical piece of metal with a flashing light at the top; the source of the beeping noise. Liz: Is that what I think it is? Zale: Yeah.... It's the beacon.
