Is there any point to wear armor that has a lower BD but high energy stats opposed to one with high BD and low energy. And does that damage type even really matter?

just get combat armor it balances BD and energy resistance

Energy stat = does it matter to use?

If you are fighting synths or robots, they usually have energy weapons. Some humans and mutants have laser weapons too. Its good to have them somewhat balanced, but I like ballistic defense being higher because you find enemies with guns more frequently.
