Fo4 Newb here. I just talked to paladin danse and told him I would help him but I dont really wanna join BoS. Do I have to join BoS if I help them or can I just help them and then go on my merry way?

You don't have to side with them until a certain point. Spoiler free: When you reach this certain point, you will be prompted by an on screen message indicating moving forward will make an enemy of (insert faction). This is when you know you cant move forward unless to you side with them. You can however keep doing side quests.

Ok great and thank you. I actually went ahead and helped danse retrieve the arcjec item he needed. He rewarded me with Ritcheous Authority and I told him I was unsure whether or not I wanted to join em because I wasn't sure if it was permanent yet. Is Ritcheous Authority and good?

For starters it's a good weapon but you will find better ones.

RA is a good rifle until you get higher leveled, im sure if you modify it, it would hold up alright tho

Hey dude, whether or not a weapon is good realistically depends on your perks, I have made my character proficient in only pistols and melee weapons, so no matter how "good" a rifle may be, it won't even come close to a pistol in my hands, decide what kind of weaponry you want to use, pour your points into perks that affect that weapon type, and you will see that most of that weapon type will be useable! I recommend a sneak/sniper build for efficiency, but any build you choose will be more than fine!
