TL;DR: came here to answer titular question. They neglected to bring them forward as a cheap (albeit temporarily effective) means to remove the previous metas of choosing particular weapons over others.

  • I do have a TL;DR, btw. XD But, to respond to your point; if they [i]were[/i] trying to remove them, then why would they go through the trouble of [i]nerfing then so heavily??[/i] They were clearly prepping Year 1 as if it [i]were[/i] going to be brought forward, so what the heck? Also, I'd they were trying to "remove" Year 1 with the intent of [i]improving[/i] player experience, they failed [i]miserably[/i], because they only place were imbalanced weapons [b]hurt[/b] other players was PvP, which is [i]also[/i] the only the only place that they're [i]still useable[/i]. It's backwards as Hell, man. PvE players were never [i]hurt[/i] by gear (jealousy aside), yet they're largely the only ones being limited. :/

  • I feel you bro, this thread ain't dumb (although, holy shit you put a lot into it!) I see some problems really killing PvE experiences, while crucible is rapidly approaching a "balance" (I jynxed it; just wait.) It's less bullshit than ever before (lag aside) but I really can't think of any good reason for elemental primaries being removed. The "elements" don't even have special traits, they just do more damage to certain shields. A lot of weapons from vanilla (dat Grim Citizen doe) were great, but I guess it was just too easy to pick a favorite. Honestly, I enjoyed it..but c'est la vie.
