That's like saying a sample of the population isn't close to the total population so it doesn't mean anything. Samples can be significant. 89% of people who took the time to answer that coming to the same conclusion definitely isn't saying nothing.

  • samples are not nearly as significant as actual numbers of players not coming to the forums wanting things. samples are by in far not as significant as some people like to think. For it only represents the vocal minority and not the majority of the players ever.

  • I don't think you understand how sampling works

  • I dont think you understand that sampling is not accurate by any means nor does it represent the total playerbase by any means or a majority of the players by any means. a poll only represents those that participate in the poll. and you cannot assume anything from the poll about the rest of the players ever. to do so is foolish. so no the poll is by no means significant at all, none of them on this site are or ever have been or ever will be which is why bungie does not always do or care what polls say about what the players want all the time. same with petitions... petitions which are a similar to a poll have no real influence over what bungie decides about the game now or ever.

  • Once again, I don't think you know how sampling works.

  • yes I do but it does not really mean shit here especially when the sample is so small compared to the rest of the playerbase. they give the option of polls as just another means of gathering some information but by no means is it as significant to them as you like to think. the 89% in this poll does not by any means represent the entire games playerbase on what is wanted about this game ever. only an idiot would ever try and make the claim that it does in any form or fashion. nor does it accurately represent the players of this forum by any means. for that poll by no means speaks for me or many others here and never did or ever will. for it is biased. and biased polls are by no means accurate or representative of the players.

  • Samples of thousands can significantly reflect the billions on earth. Samples have nothing to do with their relative size in comparison to the population. Even if you're just taking a convenience sample, which is inherently biased, it can be statistically significant as long as it is still random. Sure, people who come to the forum don't represent the entire population of gamers (which includes people who don't go to the forums), but when you have 90% of the 11,000 people who took that poll agreeing that they want more than one raid, it's saying something. It's like asking a group of 11,000 men if they enjoy summer or winter more. if 90% of them say summer, sure, you're limited by the fact that you're missing the female vote, but does that make the poll useless? No. Otherwise, we would never have any data on anything that goes on in the world or a nation, because we can't poll hundreds of millions of people. We poll samples. Samples can be biased, but biases don't determine significance.

Wrong. they cannot and do not and that is the one major fallacy of such systems when used. They do not represent the millions by any means they only represent those that took part in the pool. To draw out any conclusion by such a sample is a false presumption that the sample by any means represents the masses involved. It does not and never did or ever will. There is no way anyone can factually or rightfully assume that just because a group of x amount of people said something that the rest of the people fit within that group ever. To do so is foolish. 11k people is non significant to bungie for again that 11k is a minority of the actual players of the game. They are not going to tailor the game to the minority. All that it says is that those people want it, it by no means represents what the rest of the players think or feel about the game at all. Using your logic if poll was made asking to ban you.. and if out of the 100 that answered 80 said yes that would mean that bungie should do it...a very illogical reaction based on an non significant amount of forum users responding to the poll. Especially when the poll was contrived in such a way that yes was the only answer that made the respondent not look dumb. Biased polls are biased and not valid because of being biased. Bias DOES determine significance by a lot. Something that is biased in by no means factual or representative of the truth of the majority, just a minority. to make a change based upon a minority is a very bad way of doing things. for often that minority does not have the majority interests in mind only their own. and making that change could upset the majority which is more harmful then trying to make the minority happy.
