Calling All Technophiles/Home Theatre Experts!

So I have a quick question for anyone who is well-versed in Home Theatres and such. I will be acquiring an XBox One in less than four days (Fallout 4 bundle, whoo!), and assumed that my so-so power strip/surge protector would be adequate to keep the thing going. That being said, I recently discovered that Microsoft recommends that you plug the PSU (power brick) directly into the wall, as it has it's own built-in surge protection, and will malfunction if you plug it into another surge protector. My reaction was less "seems legit" and more "UwotM8?", as this goes against everything I have ever known about electronics. Anyway, my question is this: Should I plug the console directly into the wall, as Microsoft recommends, plug it into my existing power strip, or go spend $50-$75 on a APU 550 just to be safe? Thank you for your time, and hopefully I can get an answer sooner rather than later. :/

  • I had my Xbox One plugged into a surge strip for the first 5 months that I had it and during a storm it tripped both of them, but the internal one wouldn't reset so it stopped working. The Tech Rep recommended me to plug it directly into the wall and its worked flawlessly ever sense. Its also recommended to plug it into the wall directly so it receives the necessary amount of power. Plugging it into a surge strip can have power drops and I've had experience with this too. Before I plugged it into the wall directly it would also have problems with the Cache and not properly turning off or going into sleep mode.
