Traveler creates life across the Galaxy while evil tries to stop it, it always makes a fight but can never win and just runs. The Traveler comes across The Gardner which is a 1 mind entity that tends to time and how it grows, but a darkness (Titanomachy) had followed the traveler and began burning away the Garden, the traveler put up a fight but was failing and took off leaving the Gardner to fend for itself. The Gardner did not "win" but it wasn't destroyed, only meaning that it chose to serve and worship the darkness. Becoming the Vex. Traveler arrived on Earth and created the Golden age, and then the darkness showed up the humans put up a good fight, they even created War Machines called Exos but they started to loose the war. So.. Traveler was fleeing the darkness, again, and Rasputin shot a Huge laser into it. The resulting "light" radiation pushing back the "darkness" all the way to the asteroid belt. At this point the mixture of "Light" radiation and dark essence caused the humans that were fleeing the solar system to crash and become mutated. Which explains the Awoken, probably able to understand both Light and Dark and able to take advantage of both. The traveler knowing that it's wings have been clipped it uses up the last bit of its energy to create the many ghosts. Which pick up piles of light and revive them into guardians, that protect the traveler (without ever questioning why). Except for Toland, Osiris, and many others :) Back to the collapse, Rasputin who knows everyone is now dead/dying shuts himself down because there's no reason to protect corpses. Very few survivors on earth, begin to rebuild. The Eliksnee begin to appear for the first time, they've been in search of their traveler for a long time, we call them the Fallen. (Because after the traveler left them their planet went through a hurricane event which wiped out all the Ether they need to survive) the worldwide panic caused their government to fragment into bickering houses, and they created machines that resemble their old machine god to create the Ether they need while they search for The Traveler... Anyways the fallen start to claim earth and the traveler as their own. The Titans create walls to keep them at bay, the hunters go out and collect the pockets of survivors all over the planet, and Warlocks learn and create techniques to battle the darkness. Factions start to argue over who will rule the City Future War Cult develops a machine that lets its users look into the future, but usually causes the user to go crazy. They happen to find something in Siberia and are able to repair it (an old Exo) which is a rare find because all other Exos are created by Light. They use the tech from their Future machine to allow their Exo to travel Timelines. Also known as the Stranger, she jumps timelines in search of one where the Earth conquers the Darkness. This is why she follows us around in the game, she knows from experience that we are the closest to defeating the darkness, why she knows what we are about to do on the moon, how she was not born of light(revived by a ghost) but made. The many Fallen houses begin to band together to make a full attack on the last City on Earth, the small but smart House of Kings manipulate The strong House of Devils, together they convince Winter to join from Venus, and the Wolves from the outer ring planets. The hidden Awoken notice the collection of Fallen and predict the fall of the City. As the wolves gather on the reef to make the trip to Earth The Queen makes the choice to come out of hiding and surprise attack them resulting in the reef wars and her control over the Wolves. All of this Unknown to the Vanguard. The battle at the walls of the city was a bloody one. Known as Twilight Gap the battle was barely won when The Speakers son Saint-14 grappled with the House of Devils Kell and head butting the boss to death. The armor left behind by the lost guardians was turned into the Legendary Gjalarhorns and bestowed to the victors. Saint-14 was sent on a mission to pursue a renegade Osiris, and hasn't been heard of yet. The vex still have a part of the Darkness left behind from the Colapse (Abomination) in their pocket dimension out of time, because they can't understand it they worship as their god, well most of them do. ATHEON (one without a god) refuses to allow the abomination access into the time-stream and locks himself in the Vault (this is why we only fight current era vex on Mars/Venus and Abomination can only posses 1 of the three Sol Progenies at a time(each one represents past/present/future)) it isn't until the Abomination is destroyed that we see the Precursors making an attempt to retake their Garden. Oryx learning of the damaged Traveler (the same traveler that tried to kill him and his evil worms billions of years ago) he sends his son to finish the job. Eris and her fire-team sacrifice themselves to stop him, and later we finish him off completely. House of wolves makes their come back... Oryx hears of Crota and gets pissed... Forge of Gods Could this be us battling the true vex leaders (Atheon was just an axis mind for time travel) the Vex Forge super weapons to take back their garden (vex factory) ..who knows..
