A record breaking half billion dollar budget.
Which they made back on the first day.
Over 500 employees to employ and keep employed while making financial gains and new content.
Source? Plus, I'm sure there are gaming companies (there are plenty of companies bigger than Destiny) with far more employees than this which don't release micro-transactions as well as hundreds of (USD) priced content.
The predecessor HALO... the fps game that arguably gave fps games a competitive spot on the map. Meaning Destinys expectations are far above any other FPS on the market right now because this is the company that was capable of creating Halo. Knowing that, we think that the fundamentals of the game need to be a certain way and AI needs to act a certain way or we need to make headshots in a game a certain way or shoot a shotgun and get a kill a certain way.
A load of crap which doesn't back up anything you said. Expectations are not an excuse to being greedy what so ever. "I think you're missing the point. OP is attempting to give you a wake-up call about the practices Bungie employs to exploit its customers, and more broadly, the state of the gaming industry as a whole. It's not about whether he personally buys these games or not - he's frustrated watching the way these companies have taken gaming and made financially milking the player the priority over making the game as good/fun/satisfying as it could have really been. If we keep accepting this as the norm and paying premiums for these paper-thin portions, these companies are going to keep pushing the limit of how far they can exploit us. You do understand that, right? Right?"

 • Ya, they were able to pay off that budget in the first day, but that doesnt mean it was done easily considering hundreds of thousands of people returned Destiny after seeing what the game was like. They stated publicly in 2014 that the company has over 500 employees working for them and if you noticed, they are ramping up the amount of people they are hiring because guess what?! they care about making a good game happen despite the public opinion of failure of this game. There is a reason destiny got 6/10, 7/10 reviews, just like there is a reason this game has changed so much from the one delivered to us in late 2014. How companies capitalize and monopolize is something you should decide if youre going to support or not, if you are at war with yourself over the morality of it. Find another hobby.

 • Optimistic. This game was lucky to score a 3/10 at release.
