I wrote a better story for Oryx in the comments

Hours I have spent collecting calcified fragments. Hours I have gazed upon the Books of Sorrows. I am here to relay this story upon all invested in understanding. Hive began as weaklings. Prey to all that occupy their place of origin. Their King, was failing. He was to die, and there was none to claim his Throne. His three underlings were weak. Unable to carry out his legacy. They knew of such weakness, and sought strength. Strength found in an oath, made by each to Worm Gods. Creatures the inhabited the deep of their home world. Aurash, the eldest daughter sought understanding of all things, and such her oath promised. Sathona sought great intelligence, and such her oath promised. Xi Ro sought ultimate strength, and such her oath promised. This oath was in exchange of worm larvae, which empowered the Hive. But the worms must feed, and only by seeking their oath, were the sisters to escape being consumed by their worm. And this is the beggining of Oryx's rise to power. Aurash and her sibling would leave their home, escaping extinction from environmental disaster. Hive grow in strength, conquering worlds and filling their worms. This will become the crusade lead by Aurash, the first navigator. Hive kill all, even each other. For each must be tested, to prove one's existence. This is the life of the Hive. Aurash, becomes Auryx after taking the oath, Auryx meaning long thought. But their worm comes to consume the siblings. No amount of strength could satisfy Xi Ro's worm. The more she killed, the more it consumed. She was to perish. Sathona will always seek knowledge. The more she learned, the more her worm needed to consume. She would perish. Auryx had not reached the understanding necessary to survive the hunger of his worm. He was to parish. In an act of survival, Auryx slew his siblings. Only by doing such, was he able to defeat the Ecumene empire and bring them back as well. Auryx then sought a new power. One that would fill all of their worms. He called upon the deep, by slaying his worm god Akka and writing the code upon the tablets of ruin.It is not known what was conversed between Auryx and the deep, but when he returned, he was neither Aurash or Auryx. He became Oryx, the Taken King. This power was final. He then proceeds to create a line of tribute. Thrall gives tribute to Acolyte. Acolyte gives tribute to Knights and Wizards. Knights and Wizards give tribute to Ascendant. Ascendant gives tribute to the Siblings of Oryx and the king himself. Their worms were fed a great river of tribute, and remained satisfied. This power though, became too great to coexist. The siblings parted ways, seeking freedom to reign in their own right alone. Oryx's stranded by Savathun(Suthanon) and Xivu Aurath(Xi Ro) in a ploy to dethrone Oryx, who wandered in the deep. He had to fight through hell to make it back and restore this rule. Another attack upon him was Savathun tricking Crota, son of Oryx, into cutting a hole within space and time. Vex emerged from this hole. This is what made Oryx set his house in order, which led to the understanding that they cannot rule together any longer. Savathun enters a black whole, and Xivu arath travels deep into space. Crota is punished, as he is sent through time by way of a vex gateway. He becomes a Demon as century of battle decree his tyranny. His understanding of his father as King, is the reasoning behind the monuments he builds. Oryx 'takes' some Vex, and declares them a rival on the basis of having similar goals. Eternal existence. His fight against the Traveler and it's guardians is only but his eternal purpose. To prove his existence. Oryx is not dead. He cannot die. Sorry it's long, but I honestly shortened the story as much as possible, while still giving you the most of the story. I love Oryx as a boss and the story behind him, explains the Hive as a whole. BUNGIE, this lore would make for a nice DLC.
