This community is a battered wife and Bungie is the abusive husband....

Before I get started for those of you who are not aware I regret to inform you that Gamespot released an article today covering the future of DLC content in Destiny. This is a direct quote from the article.
Destiny's microtransactions and paid expansions are both selling well, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said on an earnings call today, November 3. As such, Destiny players can expect to see more of both in the future.
So the microtransactions....the microtransactions that were supposedly implemented to fund future content is going to stay....but we will all still have to fork out money for DLC. Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse. So that brings me back to my analogy. The Kotaku article sheds light on the fact that Bungie and Activision cut up Vanilla Destiny to be sold separately. The forums barely bat an eye. The article shows that not only was the game cut up, but that it was cut up for the sole purpose of being sold separately at a premium just so they could squeeze more money out of us. Any normal community would have been up in arms over such a revelation. The torches and pitchforks would be lit and the forums would have burned to the ground. But no. Not this community. You all just shrugged and kept moving forward. Oh well. Its not Bungie's fault. Its all Activision. Bungie loves us and wants to be good to us they just can't. So I am just gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim. Microtransactions are introduced into a game that most of us have paid over $120 for Once again mild outrage from a handful of players, but overall this community just rolls over and takes it in the ass with pleasure. Thank you Bungie senpai for this great gift. They cut content and set it aside to be sold separately at a premium YET AGAIN and no one seems to really care. Some even naively believe that the microtransactions would lead to free DLC in the future. The rest of you all just shrug and then say well its not Bungie's fault. Its cl;early just Activision. Bungie wants to love us and be good to us, but they just can't. So I am gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim Every misstep and every abuse is almost immediately forgiven and shoved aside in favor of blind hope and naive support. Each and every time they abuse or take advantage of the community you all just shrug and make excuses for them. You say its not their fault or that its just how the game business works. Or that they HAVE to make money somehow right? NO OTHER GAME WORKS LIKE DESTINY DOES AND NO OTHER GAME HAS TROUBLE MAKING MONEY. PLENTY OF GAMES MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY AND STILL DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR PLAYERBASE. Witcher 3 for example released over a dozen FREE DLC packs and their entire season pass was $25. The latest DLC called "Hearts of Stone" got a better review score than ANY of the Destiny content that has been released and yet it only costs $10. Bethesda is another prime example. They have released games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim all to critical and FINANCIAL success. They released quality DLC for a fair price and they made a FORTUNE. Bioware released Mass Effect 3 with quality DLC for a fair price and even threw in FREE multiplayer DLC packs every month or so. Yet it was the most financially successful game in the franchise. You people need to wake the -blam!- up and look around you. Look at all the games that have been released since Destiny launched and look at how many have used the kind of underhanded tactics that has been used with Destiny. Stop using "Business" as an excuse as if it alleviates ALL abuses. Stop using your hours played as an excuse as if you are in too deep to be treated with respect. Stop shrugging your -blam!-ing shoulders as if there is nothing you can do. Stop acting like there is nothing wrong. Stop acting like Bungie owns your -blam!-ing dignity and self respect just because you happen to like the game. And for the love of god stop forgiving them every single time they decide to abuse your trust as a consumer. You are just like a battered wife that loves her husband too much to realize that he is a steaming pile of abusive shit and that you can do BETTER for yourself and that you DESERVE to be treated better. For -blam!- sake.

  • Destiny is a good game made by good creators and with that said we as the consumer will never have a say in what they do....they are huge corporations they have people working and designing everything the community can tell them anything but they will do what they want and I'm ok with that

  • The reason why not that many people are angry is because most of the people who would be angry have already left. The ones who stayed don't care, because they adore this game.

  • I fully understand your analysis and analogy. It's such a lost cause at this point trying to convince the majority that any of what you said is relevant. Because it really is. And any smart person will agree. But. Until there's another game like this on the market, they have no competition. A (sorta) MMORPG for a console. So the ball is entirely in their court. I wanted this game to be just as epic as the next person. But it's not going to happen. I wish it were different. It's like politics in today's day and age man. It's like one person casting their vote logically compared to every other idiot voting for the moron (Please don't attack my post with political views, it's just an analogy). But. For what it's worth, #BumpForTruth

      • Terrible analogy...comparing domestic abuse to a video game? What is wrong with you? Just don't spend your money on the game if you don't think it is worth it. Stop bashing people who do spend the money and stop trying to spark some revolution against Bungie. Makes you look silly as hell.

        • Buyer beware dude - if you were really mad you wouldn't have invested in this game four times. I don't feel cheated by Bungie - I chose to make purchases on a game I like. Regardless of what was done before release, I bought and continue to buy their product. If they release additional DLC - I'll look at reviews and what's new, and make a decision to buy or not to buy based on that. If you have a problem with their methods, don't support them. It truly is that simple.

        • I've spent 60 for vanilla + 20 for TDB + 20 for HoW +40 for TTK = $140 I have 400 hours of play time in Destiny, which, is really casual compared to many others. That's a pretty good investment if you ask me. I enjoy the game...so I spend money to buy it and play it...if you don't like the price, dont buy it. Simple.

        • One thing that constantly annoys me about these types of post is comparing a persistent online game to other offline game types. The constant 'Bungie' is tying get your money and make you grind longer - Really? Cos actually the more we play the more wecost Bungie money and reduce there profit margins. The need to produce additional paid for content is is there because there is a bunch of servers sitting around to support the millions of players that online all of the time. Not the case for many of the other games out there which have a very similar entrance price. I had a lot more points I wanted to make, but I'm just too bored to try. Simple decision - if you like the game, and are happy with how much it costs play it. If you don't like it, or don't wish to pay the costs - then don't. Personally when I divide the money I've paid for Destiny by the hours I've played it I get a pretty decent $/Hour number and that is about the only way that I can calculate value when it comes to video games.

          • These posts are seriously getting old. Did you really think you were going to only pay $60 for a ten year game. If you're that pissed off quit playing the game and stay off the forums. Your whole argument is completely irrelevant.

              • They never said anything about free dlc's. They said the micro's would fund the live team. The team that brought us this Halloween deal, and hopefully more one off stuff like Black Spindle and NTtE. Also, there's one huge game that works very similarly to this new Destiny model. World of Warcraft. Paid expansions and in game cosmetics? Yes indeed. It's been around for a pretty decent while, and it has survived on this very model.

All you fools that keep complaining about cut content need to stop the insanity. Did you expect one flat fee of 60$ was going to carry you through the entire destiny experience? So according to all you geniuses.. 1. They aren't allowed to plan ahead 2. They aren't allowed to make money 3. They aren't allowed to plan ahead to make money 4. The only thing they are allowed to do is release a 60$ game with 10 years of replay ability.. no DLCs.. every DLC is just cut content.. CoD and BF have their map packs ready at launch so that's just cut content right? DLCs are supposed to be free.. because the company had already planned ahead and the content was held back at launch..??? That is how stupid you sound.

                  • I'm going to play the Devil's advocate here. So, I think that part of the reason for the lack of outrage is because most Destiny players are mature adults that a) know how to manage their finances, b) can weigh options and make decisions, and c) keep themselves informed about the products and services they want to spend money on. Look, I've read a ton of stuff about Destiny and the turbulent history it had before it hit the market. I KNOW that content was cut; I KNOW that there was a falling out between the higher ups and the lead writer that caused him to leave. I KNOW that the DLC content shipped on the original disk but was locked away. I KNOW that the micro transactions are a “money grab.” The reason I shrug and continue to pay and play is because of the three things I mentioned. I am an adult that works and manages my money. I can afford to put money aside to pay for video games. I know how to go to different websites and read about what is slated to come out with a DLC and determine if I want to buy it or not. If it is WORTH the money or not. So, what I am saying is that maybe you are a bit off. Maybe people keep paying and playing is because they don’t actually feel deceived. They don’t actually feel “entitled” to anything. Bungie releases a product and people determine if they want to pay for it or not.

                  • And if you didn't buy any micro transactions? I think I just broke your analogy :( Besides things like the Holliday event are what the micro transactions are going to pay for. Not entire DLCs. Nowhere did Bungie EVER state that micro transactions would pay for full DLCs, that was all speculation.

                  • I blame bungie for a lot things, but what am I supposed to do? Stop playing? What will that do? Me out of the 25 million registered players. The fact is Bungie will make money no matter what, sure I can stop playing and complain and riot in the forums. I enjoy the game, to an extent. Sure a bunch of the DLC was cut content, I wasn't too happy. The feel for better loot and more end game content made me buy the other DLC. I hate being low leveled and always like to reach the level cap, especially in a game like Destiny. I think this community is just used to being lied to. It comes natural now when an update comes and new content is added. I don't care anymore because they don't listen to my feedback. Why? Because it's not what they want to hear, they only respond to the things that are minor, but want to hear. I feel like I'm in a deep cave alone yelling, but nobody can hear me. Bungie can't and won't hear me. So I just play the game with my friends, and enjoy the great aspects of the game.

                    • Great post. If this game was rated m, you'd probably see more outrage but it's teen and teenagers hardly have any sense of value because mommy and daddy still buy everything. It's very disheartening to see how accepting they are to the abuse but they don't really know any better. I honestly hope some of these new aaa's pull the player base away from destiny so that one day bungie will wake the fück up. Destiny is the last ip I'll be purchasing from bungie. They suck as a company

                    • I don't think it isn't that we aren't complaining, it is that Activision doesn't care. Not sure bungie can bite the hand that feeds them, takes the food out of their mouth, and then says look we have three meals here... You shouldn't eat this all at once. The destiny that I preordered is not by the same company that I preordered from. I recognized that when Activision took over, the game would follow suit of their model. It was a sad day for Bungie... I won't be pre-ordering ever again from bungie.
