The Debate Desk: THE STATE OF THE CRUCIBLE

Friendly Advice: This thread is particularly long, I advice you to skim through the topics that interest you rather than reading this top to bottom. Let me start off by saying the crucible is in the best shape of its life. Discounting Beta, this is the best I've seen the crucible. But there are some things that can be improved upon and instead of going post to post addressing these different issues, I've decided to put it in one post. Topic 1:Weapon balancing •Pulses are a bit too strong -Now I'm not going to be one of those people that say "You'd be an idiot to deny it." But it is pretty clear that pulses are the best weapon class in Destiny right now and I dare someone to make an argument against that statement. Does this mean they need a nerf? Not necessarily. In my opinion, while the crucible would benefit from a nerf to pulses (stability or range not damage), I know they PvE players would be fairly upset if Bungie cannot distinguish between PvE and PvP. So to offset the slightly overpowered nature of these pulses, we need to buff auto rifles in range, stability and impact. Hand cannons could also use a buff. •Auto rifles are a bit underpowered. -Again, this statement is pretty hard to argue against. Their effective range is a weird spot where shotgunners will make short work of you as well as pretty much all other primaries. The less known problem with autos is the stability, which was nerf'd in 2.0. I have a fully maxed out stability SUROS auto rifle (legendary) and it kicks far more severely than my Hawksaw that has maxed out stability. The range is an obvious problem, the damage begins its drop off at ridiculous ranges. And they could use a 2-5% increase in impact (1-2+ on their impact values). •Fusion rifles suck -The sad part about this one is that we all know they do, but I can't think of a solution that won't make them severely overpowered. Any suggestions below would be nice. •Shotguns -Shotguns Topic 2:Class rebalancing •Bring quiver back -Self explanatory. •Sunbreakers are overpowered -You knew this was coming, don't look shocked. But before you type your hate induced comment about how much of a Whiney girl I am, hear me out. Things Sunbreakers can survive: -Direct rockets -A Golden Gun shot -A direct hit to the head with any sniper not named Black Spindle -4-5 Machine gun critical shots -Any grenade -A hit from a Bladedancer -Multiple seconds of being electrocuted by a Stormcaller -Shotgun hits Things a Sunbreaker can do: -One shot a Titan's bubble -Kill just about anything in one shot -Regen health -Spam hammers without much consequence in terms of value of the hammers -Kill at range and close quarters -Splash damage Counters to Sunbreakers: -Land two rockets on him -Land two GG shots on him -Team fire without dying or he will regain his health -Get a sniper headshot and another hit -Get him close enough to FoH -Hit him with a Nova Bomb -Tether -Call upon what ever God you believe in (may or may not work) Take this information how you may. •Make this slight changer to Stormcaller -Bladedancer, Golden Gun, HoS these are all roaming supers; as roaming supers, they have one thing in common: The more you use it, the shorter it last. What I mean by that is that if you spam the right trigger, your GG, HoS and Bladedancer won't last as long. This is not true with storm caller. With storm caller, you can walk around the map holding the trigger with no restrictions to movement or damage. My suggestion is either make the super shorter the more you use it or restrict movement while holding down the trigger. It doesn't seem fair that this super can last ungodly amounts of time and all the user has to do is hold down the right trigger. Well thanks for reading! Leave comments and opinions below!

Sun breakers can't one shot bubble I run defender and it takes three so you're wrong, they can only survive golden gun with a solar armor buff from an armor piece. Get your facts str8

  • Fusion rifles, shotguns, and even snipers all have they same problem. They can one-hit-kill you and getting one-shotted is not fun. Bungie should have never had these weapons as starting weapons in Crucible. I would be surprised to see these weapons as starter weapons in "Destiny 2".

  • What's rly stupid. I've been flawless 3 times. And there all always something that will piss me off along the way at the 8-0 matches. This is the meta- grab a hawk saw and conspiracy theory. You'll win, that's how people went flawless year 1: play the meta. Thorn and felwinters. I like to Switch guns up constantly to keep the game fun. To get good with every gun. People are saying crucible sucks. Just play the meta. They is just one thing. Playing the meta sucks. It's boring.

    • Hand cannons feel UP. I say that they should get a reserve ammo buff and an increase in ADS accuracy (as they are the only primary class to have a cone of fire while ADS). Sunbreakers need less armor and a shortened timer, and cost to throw hammers would be scaled to the new timer. Stormcallers will be penalized for holding Rt, which will drain super energy 1.1-1.2 times as fast as normal. Stability nerf to pulses and overall buff to autos.

    • Hear Hear. I like using shotguns because i love close range combat and i was using them before they became super op and now everyone is using them sadly. But the Hammer of Sol is a serious problem that needs to be addressed, come on BUNGIE!!

Year 2 subclasses need to be balanced against year 1 subclasses Not just against each other (which even then Sunbreaker disregards) Fusion Rifles Rework them to function as the Marathon 1+2 Zeus Fusion Pistol, with dual fire modes Aka, Halo plasma pistol Tho replace the single overcharge projectile with the currently Destiny burst This will expand them into sidearm's territory, but sidearms are silly and deleteable anyway Bonus for the nostalgia

      • I can confirm that Sunbreaker does not 1 shot a titan bubble, it takes three. Also with armor of light inside the bubble if the Sunbreaker does not directly hit you it will take 2 splash hits to kill you. Also Pulse riffles beat auto's at every range because their dps pattern off loads 100 damage in the initial .1 second you start shooting someone. It takes an auto riffle at close range half of its kill time to do 100 damage to someone. This isn't even the fact that if you are outside of close range the majority of auto riffles lose the TTK that's even close to a pulse's.

      • I would argue that Pulse Rifles and Scout Rifles only avoided the nerf-bat because they (along with the Scout Rifles) were already the least-popular weapon type. They really don't need to be nerfed; if they do, expect them to die off in Crucible usage immediately. The biggest problem right now is that the favorite weapon types of crucible players (Hand Cannons, Auto Rifles) got severely cut down and are now underpowered in contrast. Still quite usable, but they definitely need improvements. Shotguns in the Crucible aren't a problem; the issue is map designs in the current Crucible rotation. All the new maps are aggressive with tight hallways and kill zones that appeal to short-range combat. This means Shotguns are a natural fit. It's a problem of map design, not weapon choice. Fusion Rifles need improvement. They're still great in the Crucible, but their nerfs mean they struggle for place against other short-to-medium-range options. Year 1 Subclasses need improvement.

      • I use a fusion rifle in crucible and it's usually more than half my kills

      • It will always be unbalanced... I watched a snippet of Bungies presentation at the GDC. And in their mind that to much of their surprise, gamers LOVE having an advantage over other players. More so then balanced and fair game dynamics... So it's not that the can't balance, but they won't. So lets just pretend with them that they are "listening"

      • If you go into the crucible without a pulse rifle you are in for a long day. Yeah you can use other things, but do you want 20 kills a match? If so its hawksaw, mercy, red death, bad ju ju and so on. Pulses dominate crucible right now. So yeah severe lack of balance

      • Excellent analysis. Lots of great stuff here. I agree with everything you wrote about weapons.
