Coming into Destiny from five years of playing World of Warcraft and playing Diablo 3 at launch, which was a colossally wretched loot experience, I have to wonder how many of people expecting 100% gear drops from raid bosses played a proper MMO before Destiny. Here's an example-I went, once, five months in WoW without evening seeing a chance at a weapon replacement on my main character. Raided every week, 10 and 25 man raids, more than one raid. Didn't even see a chance to get a weapon upgrade. Sure, it's frustrating to run a raid and not get any gear, but that's how raiding is in actual, proper MMOs. (Worse, until recently WoW didn't have personal loot, so even if your desired gear dropped, you were also at the mercy of whatever loot system your raid was running.) You run the raid constantly for the hopes of new gear to drop. It's the carrot to keep you going. I'll eventually raid (once I suck less at jumping) and I'll admit that if all I get is shards -the Mouldering shard system DOES seem broken and in need of work-I'll go "dammit" to myself and try again next time. That 's how raiding works.

  • You didnt see upgrades because everything you could get was already lower level than what you had. Did you ever kill the final boss in a hard mode raid that gave gear you needed, only to randomly be given a piece that much worse than what you had? Nope. Cause you knew what gear level to expect. You expect to get gear that will help make your character better so future runs get easier and so you can progress to harder bosses. People here just want to progress, at least to SOME degree. They cant even get normal mode drops.

    Except WoW changed it's entire raiding/ progression and itemization strategy to be more accommodating to players as time went on. They modernized. What's Bungie's excuse for a game released in our current era with every opportunity, based on their forebearers and sister studio even (Blizzard) to get things right? You are right, though, most of Destiny's fanbase has next to no experience with modern MMORPGs--all of which offer better social tools and itemization by compare. People need to stop bringing up WoW, since it's adapted and gotten so much right over the years. Unlike Bungie with Destiny who only seem to be getting worse and worse with every opportunity.

  • I don't agree with loot systems because, if you did the work you should be able to get your reward. I played "WOW" and all the "Diablos" they were absolute bull. If I want to pull my teeth out for 5 years I will do that instead of dragging the mouse over an enemy then clicking on him. I'm NOT trying to insult you, I played very seriously to. If I did I'm sorry Whiskeyjaq. But at one point I said this is just unfair and gave up. One day you will follow. P.S, did you think Diablo 3 was bad because I thought it was compared to1and 2 P.S.S you can make fun of my spelling, its complete crap (I will not get offended)

  • Destiny =/= MMO

  •
Destiny =/= MMO
Yeah they're far more grindy and hard to get gear from than Destiny. Bungie can call it a shared world shooter all they want, but its PVE endgame is identical to any MMO: you raid and hope RNG gives you loot. And then you hope the gear rolls the stats you want. RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG is nothing new for MMOs. It may be that Destiny could tidy up what drops but expecting 100% 320 light drops...that's not going to happen.

  • What about 6 or 12 or 3 people is massive?

  • It's a legitimate question, one you don't seem to be able to answer. "Discussion" over.

    The term massive in an MMO applies to all the players that are playing the game at any given time, not just who is in your fire team. The only difference between this and a traditional MMO is the amount of players you can see on the screen at any given time. Would I like to see 60 people in the tower? Sure. But that requires dedicated servers

  • Oh I guess that means that every other game on the market is an MMO by your definition. MMO - you can see massive amounts of players. This game is a hybrid, but not a true MMO. And just because it doesn't have dedicated servers to show it doesn't make it one. You have to actually see all of the players for it to be one.

  • Then surely we need other means to acquire similarly powerful weaponry or armour, it's 1 go a week for a slim chance of getting armour, especially armour with 320 light. VoG and Crota's End was different, it was bearable even if I didn't get what I needed (I didn't get the VoG hunter gloves until Crotas end came out and they were not important) I knew once it did drop, it didn't randomly roll its defence value.
