Destiny MLG?

I recently spoke to an MLG representative and we discussed the opportunity of implementing MLG Competitive play into Destiny, he said that the only thing holding back an MLG Competition in Destiny is the lack of a private match. If Bungie were to implement some sort of private match into Destiny then us Destiny fans will be able to have an MLG Tournament for Destiny to compete in and enjoy! Please get this information to the attention of Bungie ASAP! #destinymlg

  • How would controllers factor in, is the better question. As now Microsoft has the Elite and PS is getting KB&M support... MLG has always been first part official/equal controller for all players.

    • Bungie should create a game mode without supers, heavy, subclasses, radar and custom weapons! You would still keep your appearance, but all perks, abilities are disabled! Same jump, grenade for everyone and at the beginning of the match you would choose your weapon (pulse, scout, ...) Maybe a control mode, to prevent camping!

      • MLG is better for arena style games like Halo (excluding Halo 4). All players being on equal footing promotes skill being the deciding factor of who wins and who loses. Destiny relies too much on powerful weapons and class abilities that can 1 shot, it can't truly be competitive.

      • Sure, because we don't have enough elitism in this game, so why not throw the MLG crowd in too, might as well since this week is ToO, meaning forums will be full of idiots making AMA threads about how they reached the lighthouse before losing their virginity. Sorry but Destiny isn't an MLG game, there are other better games for it, but not this one.

      • This game is not good for MLG because some weapons have better perks than others do at certain times and activities, not to mention the subclasses, ghosts, artifacts, armor, different classes themselves, and being op cause bungie doesn't know what is op or not. [spoiler]don't even start defending sunbreakers who is gonna win in a fight while both supers are active, bladedancer or sunbreaker?[/spoiler]

        • Crucible will never go mlg lol. They would need to strip it to the bare bones. No supers, same starting weapons. Good few other changes. And I know what people are thinking "go play cod/halo scrub!" Yeah there is a reason those games are mlg competitive games. Crucible is a casual pvp. Most likely always will be unless they change a lot.

            The game has to be balanced to be considered competitive. Destiny has never been balanced so I can't consider it competitive. When you see 'sweaties' that streamers do they have a lot of restrictions on what you can and can't use and what class builds you are allowed to use. Because there are some things in the game that are incredibly overpowered that you HAVE to use to be competitive. If bungie wants destiny to be an mlg game, it needs to be balanced. Weapon wise we are in a better place than we were last year, but as for class balance its worse than it ever was.

              • Destiny would need a lot more than just private matches/custom games. One thing that really hinders destiny from being an MLG game is the fact that it is not an arena shooter like halo is. (I'm not a halo fanboy I'm just using it as an example.) the reason being is arena shooters tend to have symmetrical maps (which would get rid of any map imbalances), weapons and or power weapons on map (which would promote map movement and positioning), and they tend to not have any or very little aim assist. Now you can have non arena shooters in MLG or at least have a large presence the competitive gaming scene. For instance CS: GO (Counterstrike Global Offensive) it is not an arena shooter and I would argue it is the most competitive shooter there is today. The features in that game are asymmetrical maps which are tested before being released and are normally very balanced, it has an objective for one team to complete and the other to defend promoting map control/positioning, and it has literally no aim assist or any other elements that affect your shooting. For destiny's case they are lacking on these elements. Some maps in destiny are imbalanced but none (too my knowledge) are really hard to play on. They would have to fix this because it would not be a good thing for potentially $100,000+ being given to whoever got the better spawn, aside from special ammo crates and heavy ammo crates destiny doesn't have anything to promote map movement. (Unless you are playing an objective game type of some sort, but I am focussing on just slayer game types) you can't use the ammo crates as an argument for map movement. They are too accessible and too spread out. For aim assist well destiny has taken it to the next level! Aim assist is looked at as more of a stat rather than a crutch. In my opinion if a game wants to be an mlg game it should have absolutely no aim assist and if it does have a way for players to turn it off whether it be in the settings or a game type with no aim assist allowing the person to practice without it. I don't like the idea of competitive game with aim assist because again in my opinion they shouldn't be considered pro's if the game does half the work for them. Another thing you have completely overlooked is that bungie is trying to cater this game towards a younger audience, you can't mix competitive gaming and young audiences. I don't mean to be mean or rude but young kids just don't care how good they are or who is the best player in the world. They just care about feeling really good like they themselves are some pro. So bungie adds on a ton of aim assist, let's them load out with one shot shotguns, and gives them a hammer that makes them indestructible. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to include most of the details.

                      I don't think Bungie has ever really liked the "pro" scene. Might be why we don't have private matches. Edit: But I'd watch mlg Destiny. Just saying.

                      • They could create a neutral "4th" class and pre-made loadouts for a "MLG" matchmaking gamemode, like in Halo 3 for people to practice with the "4th" class and pre-made loadouts; and for people to get a sense of how MLG functions, examples being learning callouts, map control and overall teamwork. Among other obvious things like dedicated servers, private matches, and actual weapon balance. Not to mention the special and heavy ammo would need severe reworking, and like in inferno there should be no radar.

And a proper pvp experience as opposed to the lag fest that plagues the online game play of Destiny. *Bungie fault* not us Guardians!
