Holiday Festival Controversy

I was on the forums today and saw two posts specifically about holiday festivals in the Tower. There were two posts that generated quite a bit of controversy, one that called for a Christmas Festival and one that called for a Ramadan Festival. After reading these posts I couldn't believe how hypocritical and backwards some people on the forums are. Most accept a Christmas festival but are absolutely offended by the mere thought of a Ramadan Festival. Have we really fallen so far? Posting inappropriate phrases to bash the Islamic faith and making jokes about terrorism. It really is a shame. Don't give me the cop out excuses of that Christmas is more commercialized and makes up the majority, those explanations are complete crap, not everyone wants to celebrate a holiday with Christian roots. I for one don't even think that Destiny has any of the faiths we have presently. They praise the Traveler as their Savior and the Speaker is sort of the Pope to the people in a sense. I don't Christmas exists. I do, however, think that having a seasonal festival of some sort would be great TL;DR What justifiable reason can you give me for such a huge difference in opinion? PS- for those that agree what do you think would be a good idea for a festival during the holiday season?

  • Lets not make it a chrismas or a ramadan, it should be called a festival of the giving, and Bungie will give US all an exotic of our choosing free of charge

December should be The Month of The Traveler where new stories are introduced, new weaponry, new gear, new everything. "The Traveler came to help us so we should do the same." Like the Festival of the Lost where you get candy, The Month of the Traveler is about giving, helping others, and spreading joy/camaraderie in-game. There should also be new holiday specific Bounties (idea: you complete one of the bounties by giving gifts/glimmer to the robots and people walking around the Tower or help them with specific tasks they cannot do on their own or even dancing/waving/playing side-games with a set number of other players). I have so many ideas for Destiny it's insane.

    • Better idea: Destiny holidays Halloween: festival December: travelers gift festival; celebrate the gift of the traveler and spread the light. Ect not going to go into extreme detail.

Are you stupid, OP. You know you could sound more intelligent if you actually tried. Halloween is not a religious festival, Christmas is but most games just celebrate "New Years" which is pretty universal for everyone. There's nothing wrong with celebrating Christmas in destiny tho it's religious but we're NA so it's okay. By the way, I don't ever want to celebrate starving and sacrificing goats, on a game I enjoy. I come from a Muslim country and a family and know enough about Islam, the evil religion that takes lives STILL this age, the biggest, the ugliest manipulators, murderers and rapists that commit horrible crimes on a massive scale under the name of Islam. Go do your research before you try acting like you have a single clue about human rights. Every intelligent person knows that these don't apply to the innocent Muslims so save it.

            • Although it is technically a Christian holiday, Christmas is celebrated even by the people who don't belive in it. It is a nationally recognized and federally approved holiday. As such, it can be a day celebrated by everyone as a time of peace and charity, and giving without mention of Jesus or the cross. Ramadan is specificity an Islamic practice. It calls for a month of devotion rather than a simple day of celebration. Those who are not Muslim will not understand what is going on or why things are there in the tower. Ramadan requires a Muslim's faith to celibate. So would you rather have Ramadan turned into the politically correct, non-religious, anti-Christian Christian holiday that it has become, or would you be happy with presents, snow, Santa, and lights on the bushes in the tower? I think the first one would be way more offensive even if it does celibate an Islamic holiday that the majority of the people playing this game are already not wanting or understand.
I know we're already in a weapon part famine. And no terrorism mentioned. Already did that with the tower joke.
• This is the crap that will cause us to lose the Halloween festival. I like this one because it's not religious and just fun. Bringing religion into it drains that fun.

              • Why would there be a Ramadan festival? Christmas is by far the bigger holiday and the majority of people celebrate it.

              • 1. Christmas does not have Christian roots, the roots are in the Pagan holiday "Yule." 2. If they were to do a Christmas festival, it would be based on all of the Hallmark holiday parts. They wouldn't base it on the birth of Jesus Christ. 3. Ramadan is too serious of a religious tradition to have a parody in a video game. Ramadan is a period for prayer and introspective thoughts. Any observance of that month long period in a manor which even slightly is disrespectful and shouldn't be done. Every event like this is done for the enrichment and enjoyment of the player community. It's not required, it's extra and no group should feel excluded these holidays are celebrated by the guardians. So enjoy it or don't but entitled post like this are lame. People hate on Christians at the same level they hate on Muslims.

                • See, here's the problem, those polls were biased from the original post. With no option for just no and being forced to chose that you are offended or standing up for offended people it skews results. I don't think it should happen just because of the fact that it wouldn't be profitible enough for them, plus ramadan is a religious holiday (modern Christmas is a non religious holiday based on a fat man giving out presents). The poster gave a bias to the poll by automatically assuming anyone who doesn't want it is offended by it or standing up for the offended.

                • The main point is that Christmas is celebrated by even non-Christians as a holiday festival with little religious importance; Ramadan has little to no cultural ties to the western world and so is not seen as a large clebratory event. TL;DR Christmas is celebrated by non-Christians as a non-religious event, whereas Ramadan is seen as a purely religious event by most who are not Muslim. Not hating, just stating
