Lore:The Vex Quantum Mind of Mercury

Mercury, the closest planet to the sun but all is not as it seems in the Destiny universe. My names the mouse man and today I'm here to explain the just how wrong we were about the Vex on Mercury. You see i propose that the entire planet has been converted into one big quantum supercomputer used to predict the future. To start this theory's base comes from a voice line from the ghost said during the Venus storyline. The quote is as follows
"...the Vex transformed Mercury into a machine in days."
. From this we can imply that all of Mercury is one single Vex mind. Now first a little back story from the grimoire. The future war cult "device" (or for the sake of my fingers typing FWCD) is a virtual reality machine that was built by the Ishtar Collective. It allows the user to see potential future timelines and this is our first hint. In the grimoire card Vex 5 we find out that Zakharik Glimanovich Bekhyerev became the first test subject of the FWCD. In the card during the first trial we are told
We built the device in mimicry of the Vex gateway systems from Ishtar
. So the Vex gateway systems allow the Vex to predict potential possibilities in real time via simulation. So to sum up this section and TL;DR The Vex use their gateways to predict the future and Mercury is a giant machine. So why do the Vex need to predict the future then? Well its a tactical advantage. Lets look at another grimoire card, Vex 1.
ESI: It's simulating us. Vividly. Elaborately. It's running a spectacularly high-fidelity model of a Collective research team studying a captive Vex entity.
. So what do we learn? A Vex unit captivity is simulating its exact situation. Now lets look at it logically. How could a single Vex drone like a goblin feasibly contain a computer capable of doing such a thing? The answer is obviously it's not possible. Not even evil space and time travelling robots can do so. So how then? This is where the theory part comes in. Section Summary/ TL;DR: The Vex predict the future to gain a tactical edge but it would be impossible for a small Vex units to do so. I believe the gateway systems aren't just teleporters they're relays. Relays for data coming from Mercury because as we know the Vex control all of Mercury meaning its the perfect place to house a supercomputer to actually simulate the data in the first place. But where does the quantum part come in? I hear you. Well the thing is with quantum computers though not as fast as regular computers they are amazingly good at calculating things like superposition. But what in the world of donkeys and hell-fire is superposition? Well lets take binary as an example in binary all bits that make up computers are either 1 or 0. If you look at it in terms of superposition each bit would be 1 and 0 at the same time. Now that example is actually how you make a quantum computer superposed bits called quBits take the role of traditional bits. You've now learned a basic principle of quantum physics. So why would a Vex time predicting computer need to calculate superposition? Think of it like this, the super-simulation of the entire universe in this Vex minds head wouldn't be able to be narrowed down to one most likely scenario as too much goes on in the universe for it to comprehend, so it runs say the top 10 most likely models of the universe all in real time all at the same time. This is where superposition would be used, to run multiple possibilities simultaneously just like being 1 and 0 at the same time. Section Summary/TL;DR: The Vex use the 10 closest scenarios to the universe and simulate them all at once in a big quantum supercomputer. Thank You so much for reading as always if you made it this far you've earned yourself a cookie :D. Any feedback is much appreciated and I will try to reply to as many of your comments as possible. • I was curious of this the moment I found out the vex simulated multiple probable scenarios and I finally found a post that thoroughly explains it well.

        • Theres a whole universe full of planets. Why do it on a planet that can get attacked and possibly destroyed?

          • I don't think it's so much that they're just combing through timelines, as much as their forcing multiple timelines into being the "timeline of best fit" where they exist continuously. Thus, their not just running models to see what's in it, their influencing their qubits in a way that allows them to force it to the pattern. After all the pattern is all they have, as praedyth said you could be made to fit the pattern, if not you're cut from time. Their use of multiple, supwrpositioned timelines is irrelevant to the number 10, by the way...that would only be 5 calculations with a basic state pairs. They could be doing much more massive calculations, considering the entire planet of mercury, and possibly others ones as well, is a massive computer.

This is good. Though couldn't we assume the vex would have multiple planet minds to calculate each section if our galaxy. They seem to have endless reach and as the ghost says "they can warp across start systems in an instant" so why bring that up unless that's something they often do. With even two or three more.mind planets they'd have a far stronger advantage over us and any "third party" forces Ex: fallen, cabal, hive. Also, to add on, they do use Cyclopes as relays. And the individual units use select "axis minds" to do all the coordinating of groups, be it builder, infiltration, or assault team.

                  • I made a theory with someone else a while ago about why the vex chose Mercury and what they do with it. I'll make it short. The reason they chose Mercury to build a supercomputer was because of it orbital patterns. One half of the planet is heavier than the other side. This causes the revolution to be equal to its rotation. One day there is a year. This is why we always see the sun on vertigo, burning shrine, and the lighthouse and it also never moves in the sky unlike on all other locations. This why the vex chose this planet. The atmosphere also distorts the sun and makes it appear larger. This allows the vex to get more solar energy from the planet. One side is full of super-sized solar capturing spires (as seen best from the lighthouse) and the other side which is always dark is full of spires using the power of the sun to preform these quantum calculations or whatever that you were talking about. Mercury is the perfect place to make such a device upon, this is why they put so much effort into claiming Mercury so fast after the collapse, humanity is weakened and confused, the cabal and fallen have not yet completely settled, they chose that moment to make their appearance and strike Mercury. TL;DR
PRAISE THE SUN
Just saying. #TheArchitects
