This is not a good enough reason to reduce the number of parts we get. It's like reducing worldwide food production because a few have too much food, while some are starving. Stupid.
further adjustments may be in order?
This is not a matter of if adjustments are in order, it is a matter of adjustments are needed. No one thought they had too many parts and wanted to have less.
Bump until Bungie clearly get the message.
Edit: We're trending, gw people. Keep up the bumping. Make your own post on the issue. Whatever we have to do to make sure that every time a Bungie employee checks the forums, the first thing they lay their eyes on is a "weapons parts issue" post.

This is Bungie's way of extending the grind. For new players that don't already know, this is Bungie's MO. They gave all the new players consumables to jump to level 20... from 20 getting to 40 doesn't take a lot. So... they let you level up A LOT faster than the rest of us. The quick leveling pretty much screwed you over in the process... you didn't get as many engrams getting to that level as someone that had to grind to get to 20 (x 3 in most cases). Less engrams = less weapon parts/armor materials. Most veteran players had a vault full of legendary and exotic weapons/armor as well as the weapons/armor in each character's inventory when TTK launched so we were sitting on a pile of parts/materials. I've dismantled most of the year 1 weapons and have to wait for parts to do upgrades. Again... This was Bungie's intention. For those of you that run past all of the adds and are crying about weapon parts/armor material, you did it to yourself. Green and blue engrams give you those parts/materials and you leave them on the table by running past everything. Those adds drop a lot more legendary engrams than ever before and now drop sublime engrams as well. This group can cry me a river... I hope you grind to the point of quitting.
