They timegatted the exotics this time because with HoW and TDB people had almost all of the exotics (non-POE, Non hard raid) within the first 1-2 weeks then started complaining about having nothing to do. That proved how limited the content was, so they fixed it by releasing timegatted exotics. This way no one gets all the exotics within the first 2 weeks and you can't complain about having nothing to do because just as the game gets boring and you think you have everything...BOOM time gate opens and another Quest exotic happens.

  • So the difference is that there is still nothing to really do after 1-2 weeks on Destiny but now we are just waiting for these timegated exotics to pop up,? did I understand what you said correctly? If I understand what you said right than that means this game is already dead and it only stays alive through artificial means. So why should I keep playing Destiny when I recognize so many of it flaws? I guess the answer to that is that I had hoped TTK would redeem Destiny more not keep me in the state I have been in since last year of why I want to play. HoW had me going for a bit but that was because I had a chance to upgrade some of my favorite items to max year one cap. If there is going to be a Destiny 2 instead of just more expansions why did we have to lose our older items since we are probably going to lose everything in TTK and before when Destiny 2 releases. I want to play Destiny but yet I do not want to play Destiny, I want to enjoy the game but yet I do not want to endlessly grind anymore.

  • I've never understood this: what game has so much content that there is more to do after 500 hours? People NONSTOP grinding for every item? At what point to people think there's likely to be an end? Say you go grocery shopping. Lots and lots of groceries. But you decide to eat all of the food in one sitting, even if you bought enough to make 40 meals. Is it that you didn't have enough food, or that you ate that shit WAY too fast?

  • there will always be people that eat away at the content quickly, Fallout 4 comes out and it has alot of content but you can bet your ass that there will be people that beat it the first week. nothing anyone can do not even timegate can stop someone from just eating content like sugar. if you made games to make them last awhile than I am sure COD story mode would take a few months to beat if they gated that because, people complain about how short COD story is. Or you can't prestige the first month of the game because they want you to enjoy the MP and see what weapons you like, get you know what you want in the game. Games would take months to beat if companies timegated stuff because people rush through games and beat it the first week.

  • Oh I know. But those people should then turn around and say "just because I beat it in two days doesn't mean there's no content." There's no perspective. People act like playing a game for a thousand hours is "not much to do"

  • Well for me I gotta decide to stay or go to be completely honest. TTK isn't what I hoped it would be, it pretty much reinvented the etheric light system and made it into a monster of grind. I feel it put destiny back at square one little content and just grind grind grind. You probably don't care to be honest lol but getting the old feeling of destiny again just isn't sitting well with me lol

  • Haha I don't care to be honest? You've played for more than 300 hours personally. 300 hours of anything can make you tired of it. If you don't like it don't play it. My point was people can't play the game nonstop for hundreds of hours and grind out every single thing but then turn around and say there's no content. If there's no content, what the -blam!- have you been playing for that long? And if it sucked, why did you keep playing? I've played good games for less than 50 hours.

  • 300 hours of popping heads off lol, best thing to do is just that. But honestly what everyone else does grind lol

  • Don't think of it as pacing you to keep you playing more. Think of it as pacing you because 99% of the community is addicted to destiny like it's -blam!-ing crack cocain. They are saving you from you.

  • but that is exactly what it is, pacing me to keep me on their game and not to move on to better games. More I play Destiny the more I wanna go back to FF14 lol. At least they didn't get rid of old content just made it easier to beat with each add on lol

If they didn't timegate them and just left them as exotic quest, kinda like the sword of ToM, people would have tried to complete them as fast as possible. Odds are, the main reason it's being done is because they wouldn't have had any content to release with all of these big releases coming out that could pull huge numbers away from destiny. I mean you have Fallout 4, Battlefront, Black op 3, Halo 5, and probably more once you get into handhelds and PC. Best way to circumvent having to release new content is timegate current content that the gate opens on the release days of other games. Hence why reset is probably on Tuesday and not Sunday.

  • First, they complain that they have nothing to do. Now, Bungie gives them something to do and they start losing their minds...

  • Be that as it may, there were a lot of complaints in year 1 about drop rates and how exotics should have been quest and people that were lucky enough to get them all usually got them in the first 1 - 2 weeks. I know the people I normally play with and I had all of the exotics from the TDB and HoW (non poe and hard raid) within the first 2 weeks. And what happens after you have all the exotics? There's nothing else to do besides PvP and people complained about it. A lot. What other way is there to fix that beside making exotic quests, then putting them behind a time gate. No time gate meant people would have just completed all the quests within the first 2 weeks, then the complaining would have started again
