Stop. Timegating. Exotics.

For fark sakes. Who thought this was a good idea? Was it the same guy that sat in on a meeting and thought "lawl, now wait a week" was a great idea for a quest step? Was he drunk? Are you sure? Did you check? You should probably go check. He could be passed out with his hand stuck in the vending machine and require emergency assistance. Seriously though, its irritating and a real slap in the face after the amount of effort people put into finding and completing these exotics quests. Its like getting grounded for a week after coming home with a straight A report card. ( No really though, go check the vending machines just to be safe ). Edit: For fark sakes 2.0 I'm not sure why people are talking about RNGesus or vanilla Destiny. This isn't a binary problem with only two solutions. Exotic quest lines aren't going to vanish because the requirement to sit on your ass for a week or wait for a certain quest on a certain day were removed. I'm not not sure why people think being drip fed existing content makes the game better or more "fair" or whatever. It would be a different story if we were talking about new content being created and added on a semi regular basis. But I'm referring to existing content we already knew about weeks in advance. Which was not available at release and/or which Bungie allowed us to run around trying to find without telling us it was impossible. Bungie does have the ability to keep things out of the database away from our prying eyes as well as the ability to not hype something a month before release without mentioning the little problem that it wouldn't be available at release. Let me bullet point this: 1. Showing players things they can't have without telling them they can't have it = BAD. 2. Forcing players to wait and watch for a specific day / time window ( people have lives you know ) to obtain something or miss out = BAD. 3. Forcing players to wait for a week or two at random in the middle of a quest line for no reason whatsoever = BAD. At no point did I suggest we should all go back to chasing the White Whale, er, Gally as the ideal exotic solution. ( and you guys do remember there were exotic quests before TTK, right? ) The ideal exotic solution would be for exotics to be a balanced mixture of engrams, quest lines and challenges ( such as Black Spindle. ) without the pointlessly arbitrary stop gaps of forced waiting periods or limited time windows. Those serve no purpose at all to the players. They may serve a purpose to Bungie or Activision ( Stretching limited available content, trying to finish content that they should have had ready at release, etc ) but that is not in our interest. That's in their interest. The game should be in the player's interest. We're the ones who play it, support it and paid for it. ( Really though, did you check the vending machines yet? I'm getting worried. )

  • They do that for a reason... If they didn't time get exotics or other things, people who either are extremely lucky or spend unreasonable amounts of time could be done in 1-2 weeks. A lot of people complained about lack of content, so this is a way to make the dlcs last longer.

    • It does feel like artificially increasing longevity of the game. By forcing these waiting periods that don't do anything and hault progress. It doesn't add content.

    • But people are complaining about what is essentially a guaranteed, high end exotic. There are only 2 exotic weapons (that we know of) that are drop based: Zhalo Supercell and Telesto. All other exotics (again, that we know of, cannot stress this enough) are quest based and can easily be boosted or guided through with relative ease. Hell for Boolean Gemini, you just had to do a few missions for Variks. None of which were hard at all.

    • You're timegating your title when I read it in my head.

    • Look at all these fanboys saying "omg it makes the game last longer and more interesting!" No it just makes you wait. Nothing else. Instead of grinding and time gating they should actually make new content every now and then or have enough in the forty dollars(or sixty cause of that foreign currency bullshite they got going on) to make it last. Jfc.

    • The problem I have with some of the quests is the fact that they put a waiting period as part of the progress. No other interesting mission to do, no go here & kill this or use this particular gun in this particular place on this particular enemy, just wait a whole week 'cause we dont want you to get it right away & instead of spending their time on something interesting, they just got lazy for one part of the quest & put to "gather materials" or whatever crap they put there for other weapons. Thats boring, its inconsistent development like the rest of this game, & the exotics that you receive in the end aren't even that spectacular or new besides the sleeper simulant, which is average in most situations. If this is Bungies way of "preserving the longevity of Destiny" & making you think theres a secret here or there when really the content just isnt released yet to keep you playing & then the content they release makes you wait for a pointless week without doing anything other than counting the days till reset, then l.o.l. to that. id rather waste my time watching paint dry.

    • Timegating is a bit lazy if that is what they were intending. I dont have an issue if it unlocks due to leveling or total kills or something related to specific activities. Sleeper Simulant had the right idea at the start, but failed to be as interesting as it could have been. Set some kids off on what appears to be an easter egg hunt except no easter eggs can be had. That might piss a few people off, I think.

    • I'm not trying to be rude, but you do know they are trying really hard to make the content last longer, right? That's why every time they fix something they nerf one or two things. Like the drop rate on weapon parts or the Capitan spawn rate on the moth yards cave (for that gunsmith sniper test). This is the future of destiny. Making things artificially last longer and microtransactions. They want the content to last and a constant source of money coming in, not just two or three times a year in a chunk. I will still play the game, but I am playing others games on a regular basis for the first time in months. Not sure what to make of it.

    • But how else would they artificially drag things out for an year before the next expansion? Micro transaction missions aren't going to do it all themselves! :-/. #sarcasm #BungieThinksUsIdiots

    • I actually love what bungie is doing. I like this kind of unpredictable over RNG in predictable. At least you can still earn most exotics in an engaging way vs hoping for better drops.

      • It is pretty dumb, I get the gunsmith to level 5, complete the subsequent steps with a hand cannon, then he tells me I gotta wait a week to get the exotic, so, so dumb!!!

        • If destiny goes down the route of less $/£20 DLC packs then we can expect more time gates to prolong content

          • I like having something to look forward to. There's always something new coming up.... But wait.... Isn't that what we, the community, asked for? More content... More things to do? FFS

            • Uhm wait, I did all the effort last week and I got rewarded for it this week. I just felt it would come in use at a later time. You on the other hand only bothered to do it yesterday because you read a guide on the forums and the rewarding yields... Bad luck pal, better luck next time! Wait your turn!

            • "Stop Timegating Exotics." says the player "Ok" says Bungie "Dammit Bungie this expansion has only been out for awhile and I've already got everything and done everything! You guys suck." says the player.

                • Much prefer clear path to get exotics than hoping RNG works in my favour. The new approach is much better. The frustrating part is when it drops on a day you can't get online, but something to look forward to when it comes round again. Waiting a week or so is much better than running the same raid over & over again just to get the same old drops... Months later same old thing, still waiting for desired weapon to drop! Looking @ your moments of triumph, you wouldn't know what I'm talking about!!!

                  • How about this...... Its a -blam!-ing shooter. It is not, by any stretch of the imagination, an MMO. I will continue to play if its FUN! If anyone has played any true MMOs then you'll understand that your social network of friends and guildies keep you logging in, not .... "oh hey, look at that!! I can wait a week or suffer RNG and thays cool and compelling gameplay!!! Wow gimme moar rng and waiting!!" Sounds -blam!-ing stupid. Also, this game is buy to play.... Let me repeat, BUY TO PLAY. Shareholders dont care after box sales how many people log in everyday, they got there money. If this game were monthly subscription based then losing people would hurt revenue monthly..... On a buy to play system its similiar to a gym membership mentality. A gym wants your money and if you don't show up then thats more space for others. So they dont care if you show, they can sell more memberships then they have physical space and they are betting on you not showing up. Similiar with bungie. Why should they artificially hold people back with time gates and RNG? Everyone bought the game bungie, you got paid, activision got paid. People will play when new DLC is released and venture to new games when they come out. Difference is if you make a good product people will keep coming back to your game. Case in point, Everquest, the original. Whats it going on now.... 20 expansions? People wander off to play other games for a bit but they always come back. Send the interns home and learn some things about your player base. If this would have been a monthly sub based model..... You folks would be in big trouble.

                    • I agree. They only trickle the new exotics in cause the dlc's are a total waste of money and if they were available release day half of the community would have already acquired all exotics by the first week. This is the only way and they know it cause everyone would realize they got beat for $40. How many times do you have to repeat the same missions? It's not RNG either. Haven't seen one Titan chest with dodge ability or warlock piece that allows running while crouched. Why? Cause they don't want ppl crying in trials about it because they are obviously best armor from expansion. But they will give you the shitty alchemist rainments 8 times just to make sure you have enough glimmer to spend on nothing. Or how about the 80 exotic shards I have. Wow you mean I could use them to buy exotics I already broke down awesome. This game was killed by lack of effort. What a shame

Would you really prefer the old way, where you had to pray to the gods of RNG? Or hope that xur sold it? You -blam!-ing millennials will cry about everything that isn't handed to you. Grow up.

                    • Oh look, the most cliche statement of them all "slap in the face". I'd rather have a clear aquisition path and wait a week to get an exotic instead of grinding for hundreds of hours hoping for a weapon to drop. You crybabies just love to cry.
