Stop. Timegating. Exotics.

For fark sakes. Who thought this was a good idea? Was it the same guy that sat in on a meeting and thought "lawl, now wait a week" was a great idea for a quest step? Was he drunk? Are you sure? Did you check? You should probably go check. He could be passed out with his hand stuck in the vending machine and require emergency assistance. Seriously though, its irritating and a real slap in the face after the amount of effort people put into finding and completing these exotics quests. Its like getting grounded for a week after coming home with a straight A report card. ( No really though, go check the vending machines just to be safe ). Edit: For fark sakes 2.0 I'm not sure why people are talking about RNGesus or vanilla Destiny. This isn't a binary problem with only two solutions. Exotic quest lines aren't going to vanish because the requirement to sit on your ass for a week or wait for a certain quest on a certain day were removed. I'm not not sure why people think being drip fed existing content makes the game better or more "fair" or whatever. It would be a different story if we were talking about new content being created and added on a semi regular basis. But I'm referring to existing content we already knew about weeks in advance. Which was not available at release and/or which Bungie allowed us to run around trying to find without telling us it was impossible. Bungie does have the ability to keep things out of the database away from our prying eyes as well as the ability to not hype something a month before release without mentioning the little problem that it wouldn't be available at release. Let me bullet point this: 1. Showing players things they can't have without telling them they can't have it = BAD. 2. Forcing players to wait and watch for a specific day / time window ( people have lives you know ) to obtain something or miss out = BAD. 3. Forcing players to wait for a week or two at random in the middle of a quest line for no reason whatsoever = BAD. At no point did I suggest we should all go back to chasing the White Whale, er, Gally as the ideal exotic solution. ( and you guys do remember there were exotic quests before TTK, right? ) The ideal exotic solution would be for exotics to be a balanced mixture of engrams, quest lines and challenges ( such as Black Spindle. ) without the pointlessly arbitrary stop gaps of forced waiting periods or limited time windows. Those serve no purpose at all to the players. They may serve a purpose to Bungie or Activision ( Stretching limited available content, trying to finish content that they should have had ready at release, etc ) but that is not in our interest. That's in their interest. The game should be in the player's interest. We're the ones who play it, support it and paid for it. ( Really though, did you check the vending machines yet? I'm getting worried. )

  • Stupid idea, wheres the fun in waiting? Really frustrating, constant barriers, let us access and play when we want. Lazy design and false padding to make it seem like there's more to do. Anyone defending this idea is just a fan boy.

    • Some time hating= good. Literally making us wait a month before some exotic quests can be startedbdue to a toggle= no good. Good example: first curse. Bad example: sleeper simulant

      • It's all fine when they hide the stuff but adding a second time gate once it has been found seems pretty low

        • This isn't like a regular game, its basically an MMO. If they gave you access to everything they could possibly give you right now, what do you have to look forward to between now and the next expansion? If you have ALL the exotics, what could you possibly work towards outside of grinding numbers? Timegating is a way of giving you a stream of content to keep you busy until the next update and/or expansion, stop acting as if they're ruining your game.

        • I dont know why bungie wants us to just play all the time, they get our money from the dlc and the game purchase, not to mention the micro transactions, if it was a subscription thing it would make sense but timegating content just seems like a cheap way to extend the games life, surely they have other ideas that can be implemented to keep the game fresh...

          • I agree with the whole time gating quests being a cop out for longevity. While there is some excitement to see what daily missions have secret areas. Having to wait a week to complete a quest ruins the excitement. To those who say it "enriches the destiny lore," I'm sorry but I have to disagree. Waiting for arms day to see if you're worthy for the chaperone doesn't enrich the lore if there's no story. Bungie really had a chance to open many new chapters with the exotics. An entire story involving Kayde-6 and the Warmind(s) could have been built around the Sleeper Simulant Quest. Not just "Oh the code was the order the knights appeared in." Then "Wait for tomorrow and we will open the next part of the Quest." The "No Time to Explain," could have brought back the Stranger and told more of her story, since we haven't heard or seen her since the original "campaign." Same as the Chaperone. We could have learnt more about Amanda Holliday, her past and how she is linked. Turning in the Ghost to FWC could have had its own story. I enjoy Destiny and I do enjoy knowing that after completing a quest I will have said weapon. Instead of leaving my fate to RNG. But running missions backwards, revisiting old missions (without an explanation other than its part of the quest) just seems a bit lacklustre. And for those who are about to point me toward the Grimoire Cards, I'd much prefer those story elements in the game.

              • Bump, time gating is retarded. Not all of us are unemployed, on till midnight, ABLE TO PLAY AT US TIMES, or are students. Can you stop with the time gates stuff as it never ever lines up for me or other people I play with here in the UK. Jobs and family you know ??

                • timegating is OK but removing missions as with Sleeper Simulant without warning isn't. If, for any reason players can't get onto Destiny for the "wrong" couple of days then they are screwed. I missed SS for that reason despite having collected the FR relics & I am not sure I will be onto Destiny today & didn't make it yesterday so despite having handed in the ghost the last time the daily was out I could well be timed out again if the option is no longer there tomorrow for NTTE.

                • To be honest, I much prefer timed exotics over RNG exotics. At least with timed exotics you're rewarded for your efforts instead of relying on luck to get what you want. Besides a lot of these timed exotics have pretty interesting quest mechanics that take you out of the everyday monotony of this game.

I don't agree. There is so much to do in TTK that waiting a week is no hardship.

                • Yea stop it! Let's go back to everyone praying to RNGEESUS for 6 months to get that exotic everyone demands you have to join their fire team, or the one that is boss in crucible! Because it was so much better when people claimed they deserved and earned theirs just because they got lucky earlier. Screw this guaranteed way to get the exotics after just a few weeks by actually having to do something other than cross your fingers.
just in case you couldn't tell, this is sarcasm.
