Stop. Timegating. Exotics.

For fark sakes. Who thought this was a good idea? Was it the same guy that sat in on a meeting and thought "lawl, now wait a week" was a great idea for a quest step? Was he drunk? Are you sure? Did you check? You should probably go check. He could be passed out with his hand stuck in the vending machine and require emergency assistance. Seriously though, its irritating and a real slap in the face after the amount of effort people put into finding and completing these exotics quests. Its like getting grounded for a week after coming home with a straight A report card. ( No really though, go check the vending machines just to be safe ). Edit: For fark sakes 2.0 I'm not sure why people are talking about RNGesus or vanilla Destiny. This isn't a binary problem with only two solutions. Exotic quest lines aren't going to vanish because the requirement to sit on your ass for a week or wait for a certain quest on a certain day were removed. I'm not not sure why people think being drip fed existing content makes the game better or more "fair" or whatever. It would be a different story if we were talking about new content being created and added on a semi regular basis. But I'm referring to existing content we already knew about weeks in advance. Which was not available at release and/or which Bungie allowed us to run around trying to find without telling us it was impossible. Bungie does have the ability to keep things out of the database away from our prying eyes as well as the ability to not hype something a month before release without mentioning the little problem that it wouldn't be available at release. Let me bullet point this: 1. Showing players things they can't have without telling them they can't have it = BAD. 2. Forcing players to wait and watch for a specific day / time window ( people have lives you know ) to obtain something or miss out = BAD. 3. Forcing players to wait for a week or two at random in the middle of a quest line for no reason whatsoever = BAD. At no point did I suggest we should all go back to chasing the White Whale, er, Gally as the ideal exotic solution. ( and you guys do remember there were exotic quests before TTK, right? ) The ideal exotic solution would be for exotics to be a balanced mixture of engrams, quest lines and challenges ( such as Black Spindle. ) without the pointlessly arbitrary stop gaps of forced waiting periods or limited time windows. Those serve no purpose at all to the players. They may serve a purpose to Bungie or Activision ( Stretching limited available content, trying to finish content that they should have had ready at release, etc ) but that is not in our interest. That's in their interest. The game should be in the player's interest. We're the ones who play it, support it and paid for it. ( Really though, did you check the vending machines yet? I'm getting worried. )

  • Eggsactly. You want to time hate one or two exotics, fine. But how many need to be time gated? It is lazy programming with the carrot in a stick mentality. What it says to me is that there will not be any new content for a LONG time so Spongie is dragging out the ability to get new items. It's a lazy philosophy.

  • Fair enough having an exclusive hidden daily, but there is no need to force people to wait a week, killing what could have been a load of excitement. Want to extend play Time? Make the quest lines longer. Even though it is more hard work it's better to be doing something than staring at fwc for a week

  • Ah, I remember waiting in Pokemon for things...getting that special poke ball in Gold/Silver, waiting for a few days until an event opened up, or for a quest to be completed. Because of that, I seem to not care much for "timegating", or whatever elongated term gets you solid. Just wait. That's all there is to it.

  • Just tell him to let go of the candy bar, and he should be able to get his arm free from that vending machine. Your welcome :T

  • Agreed. You either have a month worth of content, or you don't. But, don't artificially inflate it.

Meh, I'm ok with it. Makes every day a potential discovery day. What really sucked was rng being the primary method forgetting exotics. You want that again?

  • I think it's good and bad. For the casuals, it gives them a chance to get stuff at the same time as the grinders unless they can't play that day. For the grinders, it slows them down from completing everything the first day, but it makes them waste hours on end trying to figure stuff out (basketball room anyone?) I fall in between both and I love having a day that pops up every now and then that makes me as excited as when TTK launched.

  • I kinda like it, I think it's nice that we wont get every exotic in five minute's, but it can be pretty stupid.

  • Are you kidding? I think its awesome, screw the year one way of turning up every week to run you nightfalls/raids hoping you might get one of the exotics you needed and then walking away depressed when you got strange coins, a legendary heavy weapon and an exotic you already had. I think all these little surprise quests are brilliant, the excitement when people figure them out, rushing to get stuff done making me want to explore every extra corridor in every daily just in case. I guess it depends whether you love back story, lore etc ads well or just want your guns handed over to you in a boring linear fashion.

      • I definitely understand the gripe that some of these "secret missions" are only coming up during weekdays, or even worse on specific days only. Some people don't play everyday and some people only play on weekends. But I don't see why Bungie releasing stuff over time is bad. It keeps people playing and keeps them coming back. That's good for everybody. Otherwise you would hear either "finished the game in a week and got all the exotics...nothing to do" or else "nobody plays this game anymore because all the stuff has been done a million times". Also, is it really bad that you have to wait a week for an item? Gotta have it right now because...? Like I said, it keeps you coming back, which is good for everybody.

      • I agree. ITS bungie's way of trying to make people keep playing the -blam!-ing game every damn day. ITS not About the players having the most fun anymore, but About turning them into addicts.

          • They are worried. Halo 5. Fallout 4. They need a reason to keep you from leaving.

              • Can't play at all for 2.5 more weeks. I'm pissed but hey. I'm not gonna make a difference to a mega douche company like Activision

              • My issue is they want everyone to be playing on a level field, but limit time locked exotics to one day every so often. There are plenty of people who can't play every single day. The right way to do it is to release it for say ...several days. I can get on one day every few consecutive days. But one day? That's pretty low.

              • I think the fact that we data mined all of the exotics causes this problem. If we never knew they existed, it would just feel like we're getting new quests every week for a new exotic, which it is.

              • I absolutely love destiny, and although I'm getting a bit burned out, I'll always enjoy it. That being said, the 100% truth behind time gating missions like this is simply that there's not enough total content. Hoping destiny 2 is what 1 should have been.

              • I'd rather have content time gated than play a game of crucible (especially mayhem) against a team of Titan hammers. I don't have black spindle yet because I wasn't able to play on the days the daily was available. (2 days I had 18 hr days of work/school, then my internet was down) I'm still fine with it, just fix hammer of sol.

                • I'm still convinced there was more to at least the sleeper. They hyped it up saying it would take a collective effort and then open the quest line with the first firewall. A quest which could have been assembled by one of their kids just dragging a bunch of knights into the seraphim vault. To me it seemed rushed, kinda like they were forced to just throw it in the game because there was a trigger not firing correctly. In all honesty I don't mind it. If not for this the only thing I would still be searching for is a Supercell.
