Lurking Evil An open tundra, plains for miles, the only limit; the horizon. The sun had just risen, it's brilliant display of clouds like fireworks turning to their original white and blue, birds fluttering across the sky. The moist smell of moss, and other minor algae's reach your nose, the still waters covered in layers of dark green. You need a drink, and you bend down to a clear pool; the crisp, cold water tickling your throat, chilling your insides, quenching your thirst. Standing up, the foreverness of the land is stunning; how empty, flat, and featurless the plains were, the only landmarks being small pools and streams running along the ground. ~ After a day of travel, you spot a huge tree from hundreds of kilometres out, your destination. It's giant tendrils, roots burrowing from the ground, seem to bulge from the ground even now. It's green canopy was obviously larger than a city, the main stem reaching up into the sky's nothingness, striking the air as if reaching for the heavens. Your courage reaching peak, finally seeing the finish line, the safe haven, you embark ever faster towards the behemoth of an organic. ~ 3 days, and you're almost there; one day left of travel. Your stocks are low, angry, cranky, hungry, irritable. But that all gets tosses aside with one look at the tree, the supposed safe haven of the New Order. There you'd find food, shelter, and a new life. It's allure tempted you to travel through the night, and so you did, attempting to walk the remaining 50km at once. As the sun fell below the horizon, it's display amongst the clouds was breath-taking. ~ Over the last few nights, however, you've been hearing strange noises, dismissing it as the growing of the huge roots that now dominated the ground. But as you walked the uneven terrain, the sounds were more prominent than ever, seemingly calling you to investigate. It was a strange hum, the rumble of something - or things - moving, coming from underground. Your foot falls into a rather deep hole, and as you pull it out, small threads like silk tickle your skin, as you wipe them off, sticking to the ground now. Fearful, for the darkness carries many nightmares, you move on without looking. Dare you continue to move on? Or turn heel and flee, never to complete your journey?

 • A younger Deceiver, only a year continuously drunk now, maybe 30, tramps through the wilderness "Why you ask? Because you, being an idiot, decided that you should go this way! 'Surely there's treasure in the forest!' Dumbass."

 • As he walks, the strange rumbling before grows louder. He feels his unease growing, slowly and slowly, keeping him on edge. He felt something crawl up his leg... a spider? Deciever brushed it off, not paying it any mind. It must've been on the webs from before. Soon, the rugged terrain of roots became treacherous, as sudden dips and deep trenches became present, more webs normal spiders about them.

 • Soon, thousands of tiny black spiders emerged from the ground, no longer bothering with Deciever. They seemed to be... fleeing. From what? He could only guess, as he trudged through more spider webs, now empty. The spider population was zero now, but the rumbling stopped too. As Deciever walked, a drop of acid fell beside him. He looked up to see a huge spider, maybe the size of 10 men, balancing on the ridge above him, fangs and legs dripping with poison. It screamed, deafening Deciever. It's scream was echoed by many, many more, too many to count, but farther. It's eight eyes blinked, all at different times, observing Deciever.

 • It screamed once more before jumping down at Deciever, legs extended, ready to impale him on the ends of it.

 • I roll right, flinging explosive knives at the spider

 • It exploded, gore and acid spattering everywhere as the knives hit it's underbelly. Deciever heard the slow hissing of more acid... 5 more stood atop another ridge, not hesitating to start giving chase. His only chance would be to gain high ground, and escape from the trench he found himself in.

 • The baels, as they're called, sprint alongside you, not attacking but watching; observing your movements as their rigid legs click with every contact. They jump up around the hill, seemingly inviting you up.... take the hill and risk a trap, or make your way to an occupied one, fighting for a safer spot?

 • The baels start surrounding you, 7 of them, but you're no longer enclosed in a trench like area of roots; the area is open, but riddled with deep trenches and high roots rebelliously rising into the air. Two jump at Deciever, fangs bared.

 • Again, gore flies as the explode, the remainder of their abdomens flopping where you had just been. The rest started to advance, more replacing thrm at the edges; an undying tide of arachnids.

 • The cluster seems superbly reinforced at the front... but running back would take you farther from the safe haven. They seem to be closing around you like a "U", and will soon clamp down and devour. They seem weaker on the left side... smaller baels with fewer numbers. Choose wisely.

 • I run at the left side, and use a baels head to propel myself through the air, trying to jump over the mass

 • Deciever succeeds, jumping over almost all of them, as you break into a sprint towards the tree. The baels follow closely, not giving up yet; one glimpse behind him would reveal masses of them, too many to count. It was... nightmarish.

 • Deciever still runs, but the baels stop giving chase as he nears the tree. Had he... made it? Not quite, frankly. A bael twice the size of the others, an elder bael, climbs from the ground, it's fangs clicking. It's quite far still, but it stands in between you and safety.

 • The rumbling grew fiercer as he got close, and he thought he felt something crawling up his leg. Looking down, it was.... a spider? Joshua shook it off, the tiny arachnid fleeing back into the ground. It must have been from the webs earlier... As you move, the webs start to cover more and more of the roots, making the trip slippery and dangerous. Joshua skillfully stepped around the webs, but soon, it slowed him to a slow walk, as the number was too great. The path behind him beckoned, but he continued to move on, feeling more spiders crawl up his clothing.
