Just disable Join In Progress (JIP) in Iron Banner.

Join In Progress (JIP) in Iron Banner is infuriating. People quit games when they start to lose ... which means the almost without fail, if you get joined into a game in progress you are going to be hopelessly behind. Add that to the fact that the opposing team has map setups, multiple zones controlled AND more often than not their supers and heavy ammunition, and you have a hopeless cause. In a few miraculous cases I have joined games and pulled them back to a close contest or to a victory, but it happens incredibly rarely. If you're playing Iron Banner by yourself, more than half of your games are JIP. Today I got mercy ruled BEFORE MY SHIP EVEN LEFT THE LOADING SCREEN. Your odds of getting a full game are slightly better if you play with a fireteam of 2, and much better with 3+. Here's what I suggest: penalize people heavily for quitting (how about LOSING Iron Banner XP?), keep Medallions of Iron, and get rid of JIP. The mercy rule, with some tuning, already helps to end the games where one team is outnumbered and that would prevent situations where players would have to play out entire games 1- or 2v6. Personally I would much rather lose a game to the mercy rule then get joined into a match I have no hope of winning. IB will continue to have a quitting problem until Bungie makes allowances for the improved performance tha tcames from being able to act as a cohesive unit, versus 6 people running around doing their own thing. its not fun being the only person on your team trying to make a play for a heavy ammo drop....and have three or four opponts roll up on you...and from more than one direction at the same time. Its not fun trying to play against a team that runs around the map in a six man wolfpack that just steamrolls randoms playing as singles or groups of twos or threes. You get team shot to peices and can go an entire match without ever seeing a "fair" figght. Especially in an event that rewards you for winning...punishes you for losing...and gives you little control over the TEAM factors that enable winning (if your playing solo). So people exercise the only control that they do have. They pull out their Ghost and go to orbit.

        • I never quit a game. Even though this IB has been poor for loot/rewards, staying in the game might give a decent drop. But yeah, matchmaking is terrible. Randoms vs full fireteams etc.

        • NO. some of us are really bad at pvp and just want to hit rank 5 before the event is over. yesterday i already had my 5 medallions and lost another 30 games after that ( 10 of those where loosing so bad i just quit ) there is NO reason to stay in a IB game if you already have 5 medallions. But now you are suggesting we get punished even more for not wanting to waste time and take AWAY xp? sounds like trolling or B8 not sure which one

            • if you get a JIP game and stick it out then you should be rewarded by not getting a JIP for the next 5-10 games. Getting JIP after JIP is frustrating.

              • Had a match today, me and 5 randoms against team of 6, lost by almost half, then it finds you a better match, I got dropped in a game with 1 other player, that game ended a minute later( Mercy Rule), then finds a better match.....this time it drops me in a game that's already 4000 to 1000, I'm on the 4000 side. Makes perfect sense to me, what's your problem again?

              • Naw, it's all good. The best JIP's have only minute remaining in the match. You get a medallion which later raises your rank, and you're soon on to the next match. It would be cool to get 5 of these and then a win!

              • I join, spend a minute, lose, get the mark, win next match and got +90 experience for 13 minutes of effort instead of 50 experience for 12 minutes. I have also entered many games where the team I joined was up. The mercy rule is a joke. I was down 3000 to 12000 and it didn't kick in. I think we managed to scrape together about 9000 to 20000 but that game just should have ended. Don't you dare take away quitting. When the entire team rushes you with shotguns and chain supers, your team dies 3 times over, the other team controls all zones and is a pre-made, you just leave. You could stick it out for the medallion but I get so angry that this happens that I just leave for a better game.

              • It wouldn't be quite so bad if people actually used the fire team voicechat option that everyone begged for. Iron Banner needs to have 2 separate lobbies. One for solo play, one for pre made teams of 3 or more. It's not competitive when 6 randoms that aren't communicating are playing a coordinated team. Not that Destiny will ever be competitive anyway. Too much imbalance. Is Halo 5 out yet?

                • ... I go into IB with a fireteam of six, usually. We had a match yesterday where only [b]one[/b] person was on the enemy team for about two minutes. We felt so bad for the guy. :c The teammates he got eventually were four Sunbreakers though so we almost lost anyway ahaha

                      • I agree. I dislike spawning into supers and heavy ammo. The flow of the game becomes disrupted when this happens.
