Are there any games out there like Destiny were you can upgrade your weapons and armour that you received at the beginning of the game to finish content made 2/3/4 years in the future?

  • War frame is shit. And I've heard only terrible things out of defiance.

  • I like both of them. The graphics on Defiance are pretty bad if you're not play on PC, but its pretty fun. Especially if you're a fan of the show, which is a great show by the way. Honestly, the weapon upgrade system in Defiance makes Destiny look like it was made for little kids. Warframe is a lot of fun to play. The only downside to Warframe is that it does start off really slow. You have to unlock a few things and figure out the mod and upgrade system before it gets interesting. That's my opinion though. Everyone has their own taste in video games so not everyone is going to like the same thing. I also like Destiny even though a lot of people hate it.

  • What's good for some may not be good for others. I agree.

Okay that's two. Just wondering if what Destiny is doing with regards to year one weapons is the norm or not in the RPG/MMO whatever gaming industry. Thanks for your replies too.

  • Most MMOs also offer Transmog, which allows you to keep the look of old gear with the effectiveness of new gear. Thus all content remains relevant, though its relevancy decreases a little with each major expansion.

  • But are any of these games shooters? That makes a big difference I think.

  • Shooters do not treat there weapons the same. They usually play around with the stats to draw guns to players. Even with a meta in FPS there are people who can whip out a weapon in which it appeals to them and still have a relevant fun time with them. Of course I am talking about PvP in other games. If you look at the the FPS genre as a whole you will see that the system in place for the weapons pertains to the niche of the game. What Destiny is trying to do is bring the system of MMOs into a FPS feel/gameplay. Because of this Bungie has the tough job of finding the balance, feel, fun factor, progression, etc. of this hybrid game.

  • That would be cool on legendaries although little late now as most people have ditched there old gear. Destiny's problem seems like it doesn't know what it wants to be and so kind attempts to be one thing but affects something else.

  • I agree. Bungie has said Destiny is not a fusion of MMO and FPS but hay Bungie, it is. If they would openly embrace this they may justify certain things and find there own path a lot better. Because of this hybrid Destiny is of its own. I just wish they would embrace the fans a bit more and open up to us. Let us know what the end game is to help them get their. Right now it is still a bit foggy and players want one thing while Bungie goes another way and all is lost in the confusion. Players get mad and frustrated while Bungie looks like the bad guy when all they want is to give everyone a specific experience.

  • Spot on. Knowing why the reduced drop rate of weapon parts for example. By keeping silent it leads to do much speculation and that just seems so off considering they want the players to express their own views to help shape Destiny.

  • And then it changes its mind and break promises and trust... Repeatedly.

  • So, you got an actual answer, but then ignore it.

  • Just wondering if there were others besides this game? Point being if majority of games do not allow you to level up year one weapons for future release, then it's not as if Destiny is doing anything different, and so it is the norm and is expected. That was what I was leading up to, just thought there may have been more than one title.

  • But just because something is the norm, it doesn't mean it's the "right" thing to do be it in general or specifically for Destiny.

  • True especially since Bungie wants Destiny to be its own niche.

True. Though you run a risk either way in this instance. You either allow year one weapons to exist and thus even make far more powerful guns or render your DLC irrelevant in this RNG based game. That or you do what they are doing right now. I prefer option two even though it means no Thorn to use in the forcible future.

  • Lol that's okay. Thorn is my favourite gun and my first weapon exotic. Was able to get it quite early so have been through its worst (3 DoT and 6 bullets in IB) to its best. Will always hold it dear to me a star it every now and again in its honour.

  • I may be one of the few people that used thorn in PVE... and yeah that's pretty dead, but for the preferred pvp use it's fine. I wonder how bad it'll be in trials and Iron Banner. I used blue gear in Iron Banner and it worked fine.I don't think it was much more than a ten percent drop .. Low light may not hold that well this time. I'll still try it.

  • I would not use it outside of regular crucible. Think the damage rate will be terrible! Might try it some point. When I hit rank 5 me thinks.
