To keep Bungie development team employed. If we are all happy with old gear, why would Bungie keep paying developers for new stuff? Unfortunately for us, the "old stuff" seems to have been created w/ much more thought and taste than the new one. The folks just arriving in the game have no idea of what the old gear was capable of.
