Have you ever bought a Blu-Ray of an older movie? Same concept.
Just because the original Star Wars trilogy came out on VHS doesn't mean that they shouldn't be updated to fit the times with an HD version. And, just like with Destiny, I don't have to stop loving and enjoying my OLD media (year 1) to buy/experience NEW media (year 2).
