You can't use Year 1 gear because it is Year 2. What more of an explanation do you need? There are more than enough new weapons to replace what has been left behind. Yes, the old activities should be phased out as we continue to move forward with Year 2. As more DLCs come out I hope to see VoG, TDB, and PoE be replaced with new activities.
