How about people just donate. There should never be an incentive to donating other than knowing you're helping people.

Yep. There's been a change from just donating to "Hey look at me I'm doing something for charity. LOOK!!!" The satisfaction should come from knowing that you're doing something to help. It shouldn't be a way for attention seekers to try and get more people to notice them.
