That "fix" is the worst idea I've ever heard. If you have a fight against a touch of malice while it's only using the double damage shots, the damage the user does to themselves should counteract and make it a more or less fair fight. The gun is an exotic and is meant to slightly out class legendaries, something many people complained didn't happen with exotics in year 1.
