I've been seeing a lot of negativity towards Americans

This post is directed towards internal problems. External/Military conflicts are a whole nother ball game. TLDR: If you don't live here & make opinions off of information from the media you don't understand americans aside from stereotypes. If you don't understand us you can't possibly solve our problems. ------------------------------------------ With the recent Oregon shooting I have seen a lot of gun debates flare up. One thing that bothered me was all of the people that don't live in the United States that think they can solve all of our problems. You don't live here so you're probably making opinions off of media & stereotypes. How can you possibly understand the people of a country you don't live in? The United States is one of the most diverse countries in the World & I don't think a lot of people understand what it's like to live in a place with so much diversity. American beliefs can be DRASTICALLY different because so many people come from different cultures/countries. What works for one country won't necessarily work for another. All countries have different people with different values and beliefs. If you present the same problem to every country, every one will have a different solution that works.

  • Yea, Americans can be ignorant, there are complete idiots and insanely unhealthy americans. I'm not denying that as I am american myself so I know first hand, but after a few years of living in the UK I can say it is more not less the same besides the UK being a little less diverse. UK has ignorant people, incredibly idiotic people and unhealthy/overweight people too, but aren't judged on it due to that being the American stereotype.

    • The United States and American culture has become "all politics -all the time". Everything is politicized. Our country is comprised of two primary political parties, two schools of thought: Liberal/Democrat and Conservative/Republican Liberals/Democrats tend to believe many disadvantaged peoples' plight in life is a result of them being "victims". They "feel" that simply giving these people Food Stamps, citizenship, healthcare...etc is a wonderful and just way to level the playing field. However, most importantly to them, liberal democrats gain a good deal of self-satisfaction from this kind of thinking- it provides them with a sense of moral superiority (ie: "I'm a good person because I support transgenders' rights to use woman's bathrooms"). Their ideology is reinforced through their consumption of the liberal leaning media. This type of ideology is also integrated throughout our education system. Finally, Democrats believe the government is the caretaker/parent of it's people and constantly raise taxes to support their social welfare programs and political agenda. Conservatives/Republicans tend to believe the playing field is inherently leveled. That all people have an equal opportunity to achieve success and that few social programs are needed. They believe freedom comes at a cost and are more inclined to fight wars to protect our way of life. They continue to hold true to the tenets of the US constitution, although it was written nearly 240 years ago and much has changed since that time. They tend to support citizen rights to guns and are anti-abortion. The vast majority of the mainstream media opposes conservatives/republicans - sometimes openly, mostly in passive aggressive ways (ie: running a clip of a conservative saying something they deem stupid or "insensitive" repeatedly and not admonishing or doing the same regarding stupid comments/ actions made by Liberal/Democrats). Conservatives/Republican believe in smaller government and favor initiatives which support private sector businesses as a means to grow prosperity. It is a complicated, nuanced subject. As for me and my thoughts, I choose to simply ask people two simple questions: 1.) "Over the past 10 years would you say our society has become more liberal or more conservative?" and 2.) "Do you think our country is now in a better or worse place compared to 10 years ago" At the moment, one can see a growing dislike among Americans regarding this dynamic of politicizing all things. If you were to look at our 2016 Presidential election polls 4 of the 5 top candidates are political "outsiders".

    • Pro-tip to people who base their hatred for Americans on the actions of our government: A lot of Americans hate the actions of our government as well. Pro-tip to people who base their hatred for Americans on the actions of the people: A lot of Americans hate the actions of our people as well. We're not all burgerclap fatlards that have superiority complexes like you might think. Frankly, I hate Americans too. American and proud.

      • Well personally when everything is considered rape, people get offended by practically everything, and nudity in media is considered worse than violence, I tend to question it.

      • You can have a president with less than 50% of the votes. Now that's just ridiculous not even half the voters support that guy

It sickens me when people choose to ignore these problems as not exsisting. Don't even bother replying if you didn't click all the links. I h8 that anyone who is not pro norms is considered a terrorist/communist/Muslim. Why must you attack those that being real problems to light? They see it as just complain, but it can someone trying to find a way to improve America. If you ignore the problem things won't get better. Things must be done. And keeping everything the same or going backward will get nothing done
• Americans constantly shove their noses where they're not wanted, so I honestly couldn't care less about other people making judgments toward us.

        • To be fair, our country does have a lot of things about it that no civilized country should have to deal with. Cops using their authority to do as they please and get away with murder, A political party of religious, racist nutjobs who ignore any and all science, and want to try and lead our country into a Social Darwinist dystopia (Republicans), and dwindling interest of the country's youth in anything that isn't related to their own stupid teen age drama. Other than the part about teens, you don't see countries in Europe dealing with this shit.
