To people hating on Eververse Trading

So I'm seeing a lot of hate for bungies new microtransaction store, Eververse Trading. Hopefully this post will let you see the potential positives of such a system. Avoiding the argument of "bungie just wants more money", and so forth, I'd like to draw a comparison with another game I play to show how microtransactions can improve the game for those prepared to spend real money whilst not impacting the game for those unwilling/unable to pay. The game I'm using for my comparison is Elder Scrolls Online. I've chosen this game as both are buy to play and are classed as open world MMORPGs, but mostly because of the Crown Store. Just like the proposed Eververse Trading Co. the Crown Store allows the purchase of in game currency called "Crowns" in exchange for real world currency through XBL/PSN. Whilst ETC will only offer emotes initially, my guess is that bungie will add more content to the store in time. These could be in the form of ships, sparrows and shaders in much the same way ESOs CS offers character skins, pets and mounts. Personally I would fully support that kind of paid content in game. None of it would effect gameplay whilst giving those prepared to pay a cool little extra.
Note to bungie: if you do add ships and sparrows to ETC I expect something as awesome as Shadow Mare.
CS also allows the purchase of racial motives- items that can be found in game which allow you to craft weapons and armour in specific racial styles (Orc weapons, Dwarven armour etc.). Whilst Destiny doesn't have a crafting system, as a reasonable parallel Bungie could make ETC the way to obtain those weapon skins everyone's been asking for all year. So far, no problems, I hope. Now we move on to the non cosmetic items offered by ESO. CS has "Crown Consumables" on offer to those willing to pay for them.
For those who don't play ESO, potions to recover health and mana crafted or dropped in game have a level cap i.e. a level 10-19 potion can only be used effectively on a character between level 10 and 19. Crown Consumables are identical to the in game versions in every way except they have no level cap.
Destiny doesn't have a similar system, or similar items, but as a comparison, what would be problem with ETC selling ammo synthesis, passage coins or three of coins to those prepared to pay? Whilst it would get around the need to grind for glimmer and strange coins, they would still be restricted by their cool down timers and stack caps so wouldn't give any unfair advantage. Now for the last of ESOsCS offerings, experience boosters. Whilst I wouldn't want to see a similar system implemented in destiny, bungie could offer Motes of Light in ETC without any game breaking consequences. Personally I work 40-50 hours a week so finding enough time to grind out experience can be a bit difficult now the nightfall doesn't offer an experience boost, so I'd be very happy to see this feature added. Beyond ESO comparisons, ETC could sell Xûrs sparrow upgrades without breaking the game. I've always wanted to give them a try but I've been unwilling to waste my strange coins. I'd gladly pick one up for £1.99 to see what they're like. Similarly, ETC could sell cosmetic weapons upgrades such as the skins I mentioned earlier, or different coloured tracer/explosion upgrades which could be applied to one weapon each. Just my thoughts. Let's get a discussion going and hopefully bungie will take notice. Edit: OK. I let this thread die, came back 12 hours later and it's revived. Apparently very few people would appreciate any item with an att/def rating purchasable, even ghosts with their benign and readily available perks, so I've removed that.

    • Oh, they'll start with the emotes but who says they won't expand to gameplay affecting items such as armor and gear in the sequels? They always start this way. Besides, CS GO is a 15$ game. Destiny is a 60$ one. 140$ if you count the year 1 players. And ESO flopped on PC, they switched to the current business model you see now because it wasn't doing well. And it still isn't doing that well. Forza 5 was ruined by microtransactions. They told us it wouldn't affect the gameplay but in order to get the cars you wanted through playing, you had grind for days since the top tier cars were super expensive. Who says they won't do the same with Destiny 2? Look at CoD AW. Not only the new weapons were RNG, but it was payed RNG. Look at FIFA's Ultimate Team. Back in FIFA 11 days, there were no coin sellers and microtransactions. You earned your coins through playing and the economy of the transfer market was controlled by the players. You could buy Messi or Ronaldo for 30-50k. Now that we have FIFA points and coin sellers, Ronaldo and Messi cost a million and half coins. You can't get that much coins just by playing since you need to spend coins on contracts and fitness cards. I've played FIFA 12, 13, 14 (on two systems), 15 and 16 and I've never got a top tier player because the coins weren't enough to buy them and the chances of finding them in player packs were super low. I can't comprehend why people still defend these greedy practices by Bungie. Seriously why would you defend a company that only cares about your wallet? How can people be this naive? You defended Bungie when they gave us half a game at launch, you defended them when they sold us cut content as DLCs, you defended them when they -blam!-ed international players in ass when they sold a 40$ DLC at 63$ and you still keep defending them over this shit? Microtransactions aren't acceptable in a 60$ game. Period. Stop defending this shit and maybe, just maybe one day Activision and Bungie will stop -blam!-ing us loyal fans in the ass for one day.

      • Im poor as -blam!-. I like when games dont remind me of that. When tess shows up and has something that really appeals to me, Im going to want that item, and not be able to get it (without feeling like im wasting the little amount of money I get) Now cosmetics arent a huge deal, but if bungie goes any further with this shit, im going to start feeling like im less of a legend in-game because of financial issues in reality. Im rich in Destiny; max glimmer, lots of motes, lots of strange coins, yada yada. I dont like that being rich in-game wont mean as much.

        • I agree with everything but the ghost shell, class items, and artifacts. People WILL complain about pay to win for those and that avenue could easily spiral down that road. Everything else is fine.

          • I think you've drawn the line at a point that makes sense. As long as it doesn't provide an unjust advantage over other players, I'm okay with it...especially if it results in extra free DLC for everyone.

          • Dude, PAY TO WIN. I'm too skeptical. As soon as I see something that increases loot chances or exclusive content via micro-transactions, I am done. Not that you care, but I care.

            • Don't give them the idea that they can keep going with this. No $60 game should have any microtransactions.

              • As long as it doesn't lead to pay to win. If it stays like it is now with just cosmetic items then idc. Nothing to complain about rn.

Sure it's only emotes now but it WILL lead to game breaking and divisive content in the future. And no I'm NOT giving Activision the benefit of the doubt. This should've been an in game auction house or some type of you know real trading for Destiny players like what was originally intended for the game.

                • If the store isn't removed by Destiny 2 I will NEVER buy another bungie game. Already planned on leaving after TTK but this will keep me away from anything even remotely bungie related. And I've worshipped the ground they walked on since halo first came out. Either this isn't the same bungie, or they've lost all hope to successfully create their original vision of Destiny and have decided to sell out until they can make a non bungievision game. If that's the case, I don't associate with sell outs. The old Seventh Column never would have gone quietly into that good night like this.

                    • Anything on the top of the inventory screen should neve have any type of micro-transactions. Once you click that arrow to go down to the bottom part of the inventory screen, go nuts bungie (besides sparrows that are faster or more durable than ones in game)

                    • Selling aesthetic items for real world currency is fine. Like emotes, shaders, sparrows or ships. But I disagree strongly with selling anything with an attack or defence rating. I love this game because it's not "pay to win". I would hate Bungie to take the wrong steps in that direction. Imagine the 2 scenarios: -- A kid who has loads of money given to him from mummy and daddy, otherwise they scream! -- An adult/teen who works their arse off, and can just about afford the game after bills. Why should the bratty kid get extra in game help?

                      • You're forgetting about activision in your discussion. It won't be long til they are pushing for "specail" armor and weapons to be sold through micro-transctions which will be better than anything in the game. Even if they include these specials in the game it's likely to have less than 1% drop rate.

                        • As long as bungie doesn't make the transactions game changing (specifically making it so you can buy weapons or armor) this is fine in my opinion.

                        • Its starting. First emotes ok...but then come the xp booster...after that its material...already they cost legendary marks, they are "rare" caps is 200 for 3 chars...then they reduce the material knots and chance to get 2 from 1 knot...and so on i'm happy starwars comes out for me that step was the nail in the coffin.
