An honest opinion on hammer of sol from a titan main.

If you see this post in another thread that because I decided to copy my reply and repost it as another thread. I play a titan regularly since he is my only character. Dont want to start up any other characters since I only have time to run one character a week, and i really dont want to sit through that god awful story again. So I know my way around the titan subclass really well. Hammer of Sol is a tricky beast when it comes to balancing because in one super you have the damage reduction of sunsinger, the range and explosive power of nova bomb, and with the right set up, a blazing fast hammer swing that mirrors blade dancer. So it is hard to figure out where to look. Well lets start with the easy one first. The 30 thousand rage of the gods mode hammer throwing glitch definitely needs to be fixed. If someone masters it perfectly there is little way to counter in pvp, and it will melt bosses in pve removing much of the challenge. Now looking at the damage reduction. While running my titan in the crucible I choose a high armor stat typically. I've noticed while activating my hammer of sol I have been one shot by golden gun, and in other cases its taken a two shots to bring me down. Whats the difference? My chest plate. My chest plate gives me increased armor while using a solar subclass so when using hammer of sol, its a similar effect as a sunsinger wearing the ram i.e. my armor stat goes though the roof. So maybe the chest plate needs to be looked at instead. Finally about the hammer itself. I'm going to compare it to golden gun since many people keep comparing it to that super even though I think it acts more like a rapid fire nova bomb. Golden gun is a hit-scan super with unrivaled range, and it has no damage reduction. The super was designed to be used at a range over close quarters. Since it hit-scan, the shot has no travel time so when you shoot someone with golden gun they die immediately. Hammer of Sol, similar to Nova Bomb. Needs to be thrown similar to a grenade. It also has a slow travel time, and requires a very close hit in order to kill from my experience. So its designed for close quarters over long range, and it needs that blast radius and additional hammers in order to make up for the travel time and lower range when compared to golden gun. Maybe the forge master perk can be tweaked slightly in order to balance out the with the other supers but overall it doesn't need a major overhaul like I see some people demanding. Also some tips on surviving it. Take the titan out from a range and stay moving. I've dodged many hammers by jumping due to the travel time. Or you could sneak up on him with a high powered shot gun. That works really well too. I've done that many times and it has happened to me a lot. Finally if you see a sunbreaker coming your way, maybe run away. Running at a guy who is as angry as thor after stubbing his toe while also being on fire is just a terrible life choice, and you will get killed. And to the people calling for nerfs, can we please talk about a constructive way to balance the class without destroying it. Many seem to want the class to be completely ruined because of it being OP in some aspects right now. Oh well this is just what I think. and if you made to the end of the post thanks for reading.

  • The travel time is little faster than nova bomb, but less blast radius. Titans should be a tank class, but a simple solution is to limit the throws like golden gun. If GG had their super energy as the only timely figure and can shot until energy runs out, it would be considered op, but 3-4 shots and short time for super with no dmg resistance offers many counters. The sunbreaker lasts longer than GG, has huge dmg resistance, has more than 3-4 hammer throws, has short travel time, but combustion perk makes up for that, and has the ability to heal. I understand bungie wants to make the new subclasses desirable, but taking away the weaknesses of other classes and giving all the benefits seems a little unfair?
