Explain to me how a God who has committed genocide can be considered "Loving"

The fact that people can actually believe that the christian God is all-loving truly blows my mind. How can someone who committed genocide be considered loving? He killed countless people, newborn babies included, and thousands of different plants and animals. Were the animals also sinners? Furthermore, this "loving" God committed all these murders because people weren't using their "free will" in the exact way he had intended. That's right guys, you have to use your free will exactly how God wanted you to use it, otherwise you get killed. Wanna know what the best part of this is? God knew that this would eventually happen. Christians believe that he is omnipotent and omniscient, which means that God knew that people would "sin" and he would commit genocide. So, here's the fun part. You guys get to try to justify genocide to me. Explain to me how a loving, caring father can ruthlessly murder millions of his children. This is gonna be good. Purse, out.

    • Okay. Common misunderstanding. Lol. Okay, I am a Christian myself, so I'm gonna expect a lot of slamming for what I'm about to say. God has given out judgement and killed many, many, many people. He killed 50,070 people instantly for them touching the Ark of the Covenant. Pretty intense. One would think "Why would such a so called merciful "comforter and father" kill people?" The answer is simple. God is the literal definition of Love. But love isn't what you think it is. It's not sex, it's not a feeling, it's not even compassion really. Love, is carrying out His will. This was the first ever definition of it, so no way around that. We are called to love others, which means, we do His guidance. Like by say giving to the poor, for example. If you're referring to the flood as genocide, it sorta was. He was purging evil. Let me shed light on that There is light. There can be a little bit of light, a lot of light, some light, etc. Is there darkness? No. Darkness is the absence of light. Darkness can't consume the light (The concept of the Guardians relates to the bible a lot) There is heat. A little heat, lots of heat, etc. Is there cold? No. Cold is the absence of heat. Now... Is God good, say he exists? Well, he is kinda God of everything in existence and he holds it dearly. He could have had the Holy Spirit to wipe us ALL out, but no. He loved Noah, because Noah and his family honored God and loved him (obeyed him and did his will) So let's say He's good. Is there evil? NO. Evil, is the absence of God. Everyone else besides Noah's family was FAR from God. Hated him. Dreaded him. They did what they thought felt best and had most pleasure. God is the embodiment of holiness, holiness means without mistake. God CANT mess up. Same as humans CANT survive without water. When people sin, that causes separation, because God can't have a relationship with you. And the sin doesn't matter how big it is. Lying and murder are both sin. Same as a Big Mac and an apple are both food. God pains to see you sin, it's almost like a "bye bye" He was VERY pained to flood the earth. People don't quite understand that... The purpose of Jesus dying, was for him to bear the wrath of all of all the sins. EVER. Even that little lie you do tomorrow, or that murder last year someone committed. How... Exactly could Jesus bear that weight? I don't know. It's out of my understanding. Because Jesus died, our sin we commit, we don't deserve the punishment for us to die. Like the Flood. That was before Jesus came. The second Adam and Eve sinned, God immediately couldn't be around sin, so he had to back up. Thus, sin became a thing. God immeadiately made plans to bring Jesus. We needed saving, because Hell was becoming a very open place, and God was devastated. Christians are people that know love, the true definition, and act it out correctly. ChristiAns are the ones who have the answers and know hows. When you see a preacher per say screaming his head off about how you're going to hell if you don't repent, they tell you that if you don't come in a suit and tie, you are going to hell, blah blah, that's something called religion. It makes LAW. It takes away freedom. The world thinks that THAT is a Christian. No... Christianity is something called relationship. God says that if you obey his commandments, you can love others. People like George Washington believed in that principle that God spoke. Why else do you think the Constitution was made with freedom? Jefferson and all of those other guys were Christian. They gave freedom. I am a Christian, I am free from worry, doubt, sadness, anger, but I still feel those things. I'm still like that rapist in jail, sinning. No one is perfect. No one. That is why Jesus HAD to come, to give a rite of passage. For this though, Christians are persecuted the most. Why else does ISIS wanna take out Israel, why else are there school shootings where the shooter murders Christians, and how other religions aren't attack as much as Christianity? So, people then ask "If God is so good, why then did he let these atrocities and sin happen?" 3 things 1: He can't have access to you if you sin, unless you ask for Jesus (get the picture?). He wants to, but you're not letting him. It's only gonna hurt you, so it's your decision 2: Say he did do something. Say he stopped Adam and Eve. Well, wouldn't either way. Why? Because, he wouldn't be loving if he controlled you... Think about that. 3: (this is a bit harsh) How about ask that when you're perfect, when you're God, and when you can't mess up. If you didn't get anything I said here, at least read this. God can't mess up. You're aren't a mistake, screw up, or accident. Only YOU can make the mistake, he can't. So don't blame Him. He LITERALLY didn't do anything wrong. And, wouldn't you rather be a Christian but die and find out there isn't God and you cease to exist, than to be an Athiest and die finding out God is real? And he was wanted to help but you ignored him?

        • As a Christian I love the replies to this God is the most loving being you'll ever know You know when you have everything you could possibly think of and still feel empty? That's because you don't have God's love. The fruit of the spirit is better than any material item or indulging in any sin.

Don't be silly. He loves you and you love him back. It's just that if you don't worship him unquestioningly, you happen to get damnation for all eternity. But he still loves you though.

            • I kinda wanna just post this as a comment here to save me the trouble of retorting with it to every Christian who never read the bible. The link leads to a page that contains a composite list of killings done by the Christian God or by its orders as well as an estimate total death toll at the end. You may think your God didn't kill more than a few people. But you'd be wrong.

Well, it is punishment. Parents love their kids, that doesn't mean that when they do wrong, they aren't in trouble. You may think that this punishment is death, which is worse than being grounded or something. But these people weren't just lying or taking something. Everyone except Noah and his wife, his sons and their wives, were extremely wicked. Adultery, murder, lying, stealing, and things like that were normal. If you created a world and people to live in it, and those people had no respect for you, your laws and your creation, would you be happy? Later, as stated in John 3:16, He sent his only son to die so people would be able to get forgiveness of all their sins, so they could avoid that punishment. You just have to have faith that it is there and accept that gift. It is like (this isn't a great simile, as this gift is no where near as good as salvation) some comes up to you and gives you a billion dollars. They tell you they love you and want you to have it. You don't understand why, but you will still take it.
This may not make a whole lot of sense, but I did my best.
So obviously since your argument is assuming God is real, I'll have to do the same: One, he did it out of anger, which he had every right to do, since he's God. Two, he gave warning to men. Noah preached of the coming flood get none listened. It's not like they never had a chance. Three, the lives these people lived were evil beyond anything we know today, as far as we can tell. Imagine murder and rаpe being a norm to the point it wasn't even wrong to these people. Four, animals have no souls, so why should we care? We kill them and eat them anyways, so why cry only when God does it? Five, God promised to never destroy man as such again, showing he indeed would love us forever.

If you were a loving father and had 10 children and 1 child hated his father, was completely lost and deceived and swore to murder the other nine, would you 1. heartbreakingly remove the one to save the nine? Or 2. happily let the one murder the other nine? If you choose 1. then you're more like your loving creator and Father than you might think. You have things in common bro, get to know Him and you might just found out how much you really like Him. God flooded the earth to save the billions of lives in the future generations after it. If he didn't the human would've been long gone due to its own divisive and murderous nature. So by committing what you call 'genocide' he actually saved countless more, including me and you. He being the loving Father he is, heartbreakingly removed the one child to save the nine. Just like bible says in Genesis at the time of the flood that He 'regretted creating man' why? Because He so badly didn't want to have to flood the earth and get rid of that generation, no loving Father would ever wish that. Secondly the reason you're asking the question and struggling to understand how an all-loving all-knowing God could do such things is simple. Ask yourself.. Are you all-loving? Are you all-knowing? No, none of us are without Him in our lives to help us. He IS love, so how can we expect to love or comprehend it if we reject that which is love itself? Thats like trying to understand the colour spectrum but refusing to ever open our eyes. You can't do it! The same applies with God, you cannot reject Him and expect to understand Him at the same time. Finally, there's only so much we as Christians can do for you, we can only use our words to help you understand in part and answer you questions as best we can. But ultimately it's down to you making a personal decision to ask Jesus into your life that you may know Him and understand. Just like if somebody who has never tasted a strawberry asks you what it tastes like.. You can only partially give them an idea of what is like and how it tastes. The ONLY way that the other person will truly know what a strawberry tastes like is if they themselves actively go out and eat one and experience it first hand. So like you my friend, if you truly truly want to know the answer to your question then you need to actively and sincerely ask Jesus to come to you and make Himself and His ways known to you. He's waiting at the door for you bro, and He is swift to answer :) I hope this helps somewhat, and that this message finds you well and having a fantastic day. God bless dude! See ya in the games! ;)
