What I hear is a guy who has learned (the hard way) what happens when he goes wading into some of these controversial topics as someone who is NOT a paid community manager. So he is being deliberately vague and conciliatory, in his effort to avoid stirring up controversy. ...and even THAT, you choose to use as a way to gin up anger and controversy. So its a basically a no-win situation for Bungie short of CAVING and giving people what they essentially haven't (and refuse) to pay for. Frankly I disagree with Luke. I think Bungie did a VERY good job of communicating that the Nightfall and Weekly strikes were NOT part of the base content of the game. ITS JUST THAT----AS USUAL----PEOPLE AROUND HERE CHOOSE TO IGNORE WHAT THEY DON'T WISH TO HEAR. The only thing that Bungie COULD have done better was to make it STONE CLEAR that----because of the new Quest system, and the massive increase in Guardian power that was going to come with TTK, that there was not going to be any way of continuing to progress peole along who chose not to buy it. ...and NO, he didn't lie about what end game you hvae. You still have access to both raids...and both HARD raids. Plus you have the Prison of Elders. What you DON"T have access to are the EVENTS (Nightfall, Heroic strikes, Daily Missions) that are based on content Bungie ALTERS for the benefit of players who are at or near the game's highest level. Which Year One player are now NOWHERE NEAR TO BEING. A Level 34, light 170 Guardian would even be able to even DAMAGE any of hte enemies in the Year Two end game. Even the Daily MISSIon (Light 240) is over your heads now. You'd need to be a MINIMUM of Light 200 to even DAMAGE any of the enemies in a level 40 or 41 Story mission or Quest. You'd be in the same situation as a level 10 Guardian trying to take on those Hive Major below the Steppes in the Cosmodrome.

  • I read it, the issue is they were extremely vague in providing any information which they admit to in their interview. They also admit the reason they didn't say anything outright was the response they knew they would get.

  • They were as direct as you could reasonably expect ANYONE to be about the downside of a product that they are attempting to sell you. That is where your RESPONSIBILITY to yourself to be an informed consumer kicks in. Because that is how business operates. Bungie looked out for their own interests...and expected you to look out for yours. While people around here seem to think that is it Bungie's duty to take care of their customer's interests rather than their own.

Any successful business knows taking care of customers first maintains a successful business. I wonder how many customers they lost "looking out for their interests"

  • Oh really lol, why give me level 40 gear then for quests completed? Why would they do that before you've bought the dlc?

  • Ok, need to ask about your statement: "I think Bungie did a VERY good job of communicating that the Nightfall and Weekly strikes were NOT part of the base content of the game." Can you point me to where this was known before all the TTK hype? I mean if they told us that from before the initial release, I would like to know where; heck if they let us know even before TTK hype started, I would like to know where.

  • http://www.gamezone.com/news/destiny-s-the-dark-below-dlc-locks-players-out-of-nightfall-and-heroic-strikes-3966-jrfb The problem is, Bungie doesn't have anything in place to offer players who haven't purchased the DLC, so there's nothing they can do. There's no separate Nightfall or Heroic list for those without The Dark Below. And a lot of players are pissed off because they've essentially been locked out of a key part of the game, one that has been in place since the game's launch in September. http://gamerant.com/destiny-weekly-strikes-dlc/ David “DeeJ” Dague, Bungie Community Manager, has confirmed that this exclusion is not just a one-off. In future weeks, The Dark Below’s strike could also rotate back into contention as a weekly strike. Speaking on Twitter, DeeJ revealed that “featured heroic activities will be a blend of old and new from week to week.” This was backed up by Bungie’s head of community Eric Osborne. Speaking with Polygon, Osborne stated that “activities like nightfall will periodically feature expansion 1 content.” https://www.bungie.net/en-US/Forum/Post/84298845/0/0/1 http://kotaku.com/destiny-review-update-four-months-later-1678011068 The Dark Below also raised the level cap, which necessitated an overhaul of the game's weapons and armor mere months into its lifespan. The expansion has been seamlessly folded into the fabric of the game to the point that it is essentially a mandatory upgrade, and those who don't own it are increasingly left out in the cold. Turns out Destiny wasn't a $60 game, it was a $95 game, since its $35 expansion pass is all but essential for long-term play. (More on that in a bit.) Thing is... The Dark Below doesn't quite feel like an expansion pack. It doesn't feel optional, like the sort of thing some players could choose to ignore in order to continue playing vanilla Destiny. That's mainly because missions exclusive to The Dark Below have been added to the weekly mix for all players, even those who don't own it.....Last week, the weekly strike was the one from The Dark Below, which is the second time that's happened since the expansion came out. As a result, players who didn't own the expansion were locked out of both the weekly strike and, even more crucially, the weekly Nightfall strike, both of which reward high-level players with crucial buffs, currency, and gear. So, any player who didn't buy The Dark Below was locked out of a big chunk of the game for half of the last month. Unlike some other online games, Destiny doesn't charge a subscription fee. However, given the all-but-required nature of the expansion, it's easy to see the one as a substitute for the other. . ...and this all took place in December of 2014. It was VERY clear----even then---that the DLCs (expansions) were being treated as core content...and NOT optional. Therefore we were going to to reach this point eventually. Where either Bungie either abruptly cut off support for the vanilla game...OR eventually squeezed people who did not remain current the gradually. Until we reached a point were the weekly end-game events were made up of DLC content so often, that vanilla gamers werre EFFECTIVELY left with nothing to play end-game wise.

  • Thank you, I do appreciate you providing these links and statements. I still believe that Bungie didn't make it clear, as it was only through other sites, that this was posted. I liken it to buying a brand new car, and there is no real information on using the features and understanding of what comes standard - in other words, no user manual or sales information that allows the purchaser to make a sound (and with full knowledge) purchasing decision on what they are getting themselves into; it is a shameful way of doing business that Bunige has decided to follow.

  • We'll have to agree to disagree then. Because, from my point of view, Bungied did everything short of put it up in neon lights.

  • You've been going long enough in those replys below, about endgame content and the fact that year 1 player didnt lose anything and that you got entertainment according to your personal value, so I'll bring another point: Even if I now decide to buy TTK now (money never was an issue for me, I agree that gaming is one of the cheapest form of entertainment), I still lose access to a lot of things I could do. A quick example: Difficulty settings in story mission. Why do I care? I'm a alt freak, I delete and restart new character on a whim depending on what I need. I prefer to level in PvE, doing the story on the most difficult setting I can bear to win more exp, more cash (more major/ultra) and have a wannabe challenge. Now it's default lvl or lvl 40 with XXX light required. Why? Only answer that comes to mind: Greed. Buy it or dont enjoy your sidedishes. You even have to redo the first story missions to complete quests, and if your light level is not enough, you're stuck doing it at lvl 6 or 9. Why should you care? Well, it shows that they're willing to remove useful content, just for the heck of it, with no apparent reason except a paywall scheme. I prefer to offer donations to other F2P games right now, that are offering me way more for my money than this shady company. It's not about the $/hours, it's about the money per quality content. Quality time is totally subjective, but I feel that the 552 hours I've spent in year 1 weren't as fun as the 100-200 hours I've spent on other games. They feel pretty much wasted, and it's bad to make people feel that way a year after a big coming out, dont you think?

  • 1. I don't know why Bungie removed the dificulty sliders....I complained to Cozmo about that because it allowed you to just basically stomp your way thorugh the main story missions if you were a Year One vet. My only ***guess**** is that they did it to protect the integrity of the the various question lines that weave through these story missions. 2. Why would you spend 500 doing something you don't like.....and that no one was paying you to do?? That makes NO sense to me. My liesure time is FAR too precious to me to waste it doing anythign tha tI don't really like to do.

  • For #1 I'm still hoping for them to at least give us something to chew on. For #2, I didnt mind the grind at the time, because I was working on something. First 3 month, before DB, I think I've played more hours per day than hours of work. When DB hit and they showed us it was going to be another vertical progression game, it's stop my fun right in it's track. Then with HoW, with ascending and all, I thought, OMG they're trying to put it back together and be more horizontal, maybe my time is worth something again. But TTK just killed any last hope for that. So now my time spent grinding for factions, patrolling for mats, leveling up my exotic collection feels wasted and dull. The brain doesn't remember the fun it had, just the deception of a game that could've been the next best thing. RPG games are the best, when the time invested is for something, maybe not permanent, but more sturdy than a complete switch every 3 months. All personal opinions, of course!

  • ...and loot-based games are about enjoying a process....not reaching some sort of end-point. But not every game is for eveyrone. That's why there are menus.

  • Yet Destiny is all about endgame, but if it followed horizontal progression, it would be the best loot-based game ever, because we would enjoy the process, not the end-point! You're right about menus, we're lucky to have so many choices nowadays.

  • Not really my opinion though. Everyone that asked for their content back, are been told that nightfall, dailies and strikes are all endgame activities. Guess what we can't do if we don't buy TTK. It's hard to enjoy the process when everything the game has to offer now is hidden behind a paywall. But I disgress, you were aiming at my not so fun process of 552 hours. Like I said before, all personal opinions.

  • They also were told-----repeatedly----that these activities were not part of the base content of the game. So what they are asking for is not to have THE end-game back. But for Bungie to CREATE and SUPPORT a SEPERATE end game for people who have chosen NOT to continue to financially support the game. Which makes NO sense, from Bungie's perspective.

  • I differ on the opinion that they clearly stated that those were endgame content only, even more when Luke Smith explained they did have communication issues with their community, I mean, I didnt receive no gazette telling me all this, but I'll come back on the endgame-process part. They removed missions level, they removed equippable drops, they removed way to gain marks, they removed lvl 32-34 strikes playlists, they removed most rewards from most process contents. So my point was more that if we dont have access to supposed endgame content, how did they thought we could now like the process, with nothing to do compared to year 1. Having kept these things, I wouldn't mind not having access to nightfalls, dailies, weeklies etc. It was planned all along, and like the grind, was not hidden enough to not make us see it for what it was. They need to put more point in their camouflage skills.
