My main issue with weed in its current position in society is that it's a gateway to harder drugs. I'm undecided on how legalising it would affect that, either: - reducing the chances of progression to harder drugs because it's now not the easily accessible & harmless illegal drug that it was, or - increasing the chances of progression to harder drugs because their illegal status will likely be questioned. There's obviously societal benefits of legalising it though through taxation and reduced crime.

Cannabis is not a gateway drug. Your 5 years of mild use does not make you an expert. I cultivate these plants for medical use, and have been using them medically for over 10 years. There are far more benefits than tax money and reduced crime. Dont be a prick and focus on money. Look at the good it can do. Scientific studies have shown how helpful this plant really is, how little to no damage is caused by using cannabis responsibly. You are not up to date. Addiction is a mental disorder, proof is in the behavior. People become dangerously addicted to more than substances. Addiction causes drug seeking behavior and abuse. In otherwords, for the simple minded addiction is the "gateway drug" and usually goes hand in hand with depression and other mental issues. This really is common knowledge...

  • I'm not debating its purpose or usefulness - you've come to the wrong place to fight that corner. I'm saying its a gateway drug, the fact that it's not addictive doesn't automatically rule it out as one.

You breathe these every day, so does the crackhead down the street. He smokes crack because he breathes right? Cant prove me wrong, it must be a gateway drug. Lmao you were simply to dim to understand my explanation. I dont have the patience (even while baked) to teach people like you. You hold on to that bullshit thesis of yours buddy. Lmao.

  • Haha. Jesus Christ, stop getting your knickers in a twist. Firstly, I replied before you edited your 'explanation' in. Secondly, my reasons for believing it's a gateway isn't because I believe it's addictive (it's not chemically addictive, only habitually) or because of its negative affects. I believe it's a gateway because of "its current position in society" (this was in my reply to the OP to which you seem to have forgotten) in the sense that: 1. Weed is a safe entry in to breaking the barrier and stigma of illegal drugs 2. Dealers often have access to harder drugs and these are now easily accessible whereas they weren't previously. Not everyone who smokes weed will go on to harder drugs, yet most who do/did take harder drugs started on weed.

Point in fact for you buddy, most hard drug users got started in a hospital on opiates or started with opiates from a pharmacy. In the hospital or while on prescriptions it helps pain, what if you have lingering pain? They go back to opiates. Opiates become addictive in about a weeks worth of use for many. This is why you are not supposed to be on them for more than 5 days. Lots of doctors write up one month supplies or more... do the math. There are 10x more pill poppers in america than any other type of drug user. Want proof? Visit your local methadone clinic and ask.

  • I'm not referring to "hard" drugs such as heroin, meth and crack. I'm saying it's a gateway to "harder" drugs such as coke, E, ketamine etc.

How about "E"? Jesus. Do you know anything dude? I just told you where those addictions start, it isnt with cannabis. All those hard drugs you mentioned came from a pharmacy and got to the street. Im done here. This is utterly frustrating, like teaching quantum physics to a 2 year old.

Anything but anecdotes buddy? You also contradicted yourself by sayomg you dont think its addictive, only habitually addictive... which futher prooved my point that addiction is a mental disorder as habbits are dependent on an individuals mental state. Lol here is what cannabis actually does. Your description of how its a gateway drug is like sayimg poverty is a gateway drug. Truth is, a week mind is the gateway. Plain and simple. Stop looking for something out there to blame for peoples choices and let them own their own. Take away all drugs and people will huff paint, markers, gasoline, etc.... its a mental disorder you speak of. This plant is not the demon you are searching for.

  • I didn't contradict myself. When I said "I don't think it's addictive" I was referring to it not being chemically addictive - obviously anything can be habitually addictive. What's the point you're trying to make here because I'm struggling to see how it relates to my original reply to OP.

  •
What's the point you're trying to make here because I'm struggling to see how it relates to my original reply to OP.
I am fully aware, and like i said (not trying to mean) i simply lack the ability to explain to you on a simpler level the point you are missing. Read it a few times... it might sink in. Try not to have such a full glass. I hate overflow messes.

  • My issue is that the argument you're making to counter my point is completely irrelevant as my point isn't based on negative connotations I have with weed.
My issue is that the argument you're making to counter my point is completely irrelevant as my point isn't based on negative connotations I have with weed.
Your problem is far greater than that and begins much earlier in development.

  • Drug dealers who sell weed often have other drugs. A state regulated marijuana dispensary doesn't sell other drugs.

  • Don't get me wrong, weed is definitely not a gateway drug, but that doesn't mean the people who sell it aren't a gateway to other drugs. I've had a few dealers who would have other drugs, you just have to catch them at the right time

Lmao. People corrupt people. End of story. Those "save them from themselves" people should all sit in a circle holding a gun to the next persons head and all pull the trigger at the same time to save them the horrific experience that is life. Protect themselves to death, literally. Lol Ill take the pain, the good that goes with it outweighs the bad.

  • Its stronger but still harmless and very easy to obtain literally anywhere in the states. Its only a gateway drug BECAUSE its illegal. People are flat out lied to about the "danger" of weed so when they experience it for themselves they question if other drugs are really dangerous or not. The reality is nerely every Other drug is in fact both dangerous and physically addicting.

  • I only know from personal experience (and somewhat of what I've perceived of my friends) but I certainly didn't (and don't believe they did either) go on to other stuff because of the realisation of any misinformation. I knew weed was safe and other stuff wasn't, yet I chose to experiment because I had the contacts in place and also wanted to experience the different highs.
